Pitch Black

When I was growing up being able to read a mystery by Agatha Cristie was an accomplishment for a young lad of my age (8yrs).
The mystery part was always exciting and cleverly done and one felt a feeling satisfaction at being as a reader part of the tale.
Alex Gray’s characters with Inspector Lorimer , his wife and members of his staff as they go about unraveling the crime of each story go far beyond Christie in that feeling. I have most enjoyed all of the books of hers I have read.
All set in rural Scotland with people we foreigners can easily relate to. No social axes to grind, or biases to flaunt just great stories well told and enjoyed. I encourage her to be read.

This was a new author to me but was a good book to read. Will continue to read the series.

Alex Gray has yet done it again with this book. She has become one of my favorite mystery deactive writers. I am fan of football and mystery and she did a great job with this book.

I really enjoyed reading this story. It was written well and kept me guessing with the who done it. But by the end I did figure out who had done it. I like a mystery that keeps me on my toes and this one sure did. The characters were all good.

A job well done and highly recommend to mystery and dective readers.

Another typical Glasgow based crime story from Alex gray. She has an uncanny knack of bringing fictional Glasgow characters to life. Dc lorimer is every bodies favourite policeman

I only started reading Alex Gray’s Detective Lorimer series a few weeks ago but I’m steadily working my way through them all. Like the others, Pitch Black was well written, easy to read and the wee snippets about Glasgow are great. The only downside for me is that the plot was fairly predictable and like a couple of the others, I guessed who the culprit was pretty early into the story – which I would rather not do. However, I really like the characters and all the details included about Glasgow are brilliant. I’ve read many crime novels but none near to home. I think ex-pats would absolutely love this series, in fact I plan to send one of the books to family across the globe as they will be chuffed to read about their city. Away to start No.6 in the series now… 🙂
