Reclaiming Her Time: The Power of Maxine Waters audiobook free
The only way I was going to read this book was to get my hands on it for free because I detest Maxine Waters. She has played kissy face with notorious antisemite Louis Farrakhan, and she is an egregious exploiter of nepotism, managing to funnel a small fortune to her daughter through campaign finance loopholes. She has also spewed incendiary rhetoric about Republicans, saying mobs should attack Trump supporters. (No, I’m not one, but I don’t believe in that kind of language on either side.) She is also an ineffective legislator: during her three decades in office, Rep. Waters has passed just three bills, and one of them was renaming a post office. Finally, I also don’t understand how she’s celebrated for being a “voice for democracy” when she venerates Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
In other words, I think Mad Max should be kicked out of office, so I don’t understand the hegemony of this book. Yes, it’s well-written, but Waters is not a worthy subject.

This book contains a lot of photographs, artwork and drawings of Maxine. It details her life and marriage. It discusses her life before the House of Representatives and during. It talks about her district which is Watts, in Los Angeles. The Rodney King riots and other disturbances. Her work in the House has involved Congressional hearings on Rap music and free speech, her work on the Banking Committee which she sees as essential to African American’s lives and eventually opposition to the Republican majority Senate and Presidents Bush and Trump. There’s even a chapter that highlights positive terms attributed to her and the publications and paragraphs they came from. Excellent biography.
