I think the narrator did a great job overall. Howerever I would have prefure a guys voice for shi shi Shang and his guardian.

It was paced well and fit well with an alternative universe(au) feel. Went ahead and bought the actual hard back after listening to keep in my library.

Audiobook Reflection (A Twisted Tale #4) by Elizabeth Lim

Ive always been a sucker for a retelling of Mulan and Id have to say… this one was Amazing! Anyone that loves the tale of Mulan will love this spin off. This story allowed you to experience Mulan grow as a person, the slow burn of affection Mulan and Shang have for each other, and a great alternative story line to the original. I definitely recommend it! Its worth it!

i really enjoyed learning about the underworld from Asian perspective. i loved what the author did to empower Mulan through diversity, respect of one\’s history and ancestors and the levels of.the Underworld. Great solid read.

The same themes keep recurring and when you think its finally resolved it comes back so you feel like youre really in the underworld. I assume this book is for a younger audience that might benefit from repetition. Like A LOT of repetition. I liked the setting, minor characters or antagonists, and challenges met by the protagonists. I did not like flash backs to the movie. It took me a long time to finish the book, because I felt stuck in Dantes Purgatorio, but I finally made it out. The last 5 chapters are the best and most interesting. I eventually got used to the male voices by the voice actor, but I didnt really like the yelling because her voice sounded strained like she was losing her voice, but maybe thats safer than actual yelling for people who wear headphones. I personally wouldnt recommend this to my 30-some-year-old peers but maybe to middle schoolers who would be interested in a story using more Chinese mythology.
