Shades Fall (Last Riders #4)
By: Jamie Begley
4/5 stars

We have seen Shade & Lily in the previous 3 Last Riders books and in the Biker Bitches book. We have also seen how Shade has wanted Lily, and the things that he has done that made her life a little easier & better. Lily has been oblivious to how Shade feels about her, but no longer do the Last Riders scare her into a panic attack, she just has mild anxiety when dealing with Shade in close quarters.

Shade is taking over (from Beth) a lot of the dealing with Lilys panic attacks and helping her get through them. He also helps her find new ways to cope instead of just retreating into herself or snapping the red rubber band on her wrist. Granted, Shade treats her like a little girl sometimes but then again, Lily has been coddled most of her life and therefor, needs the direct instruction.

In this book, we dont see the wild parties to the extent which we saw them in the first 3 books and I was actually glad for that, because I dont think that Lily would have been able to handle them. Granted she does get a shocker when she finds out & feels hurt and betrayed, but Shade doesnt try to force her to go to them or participate. The club do tone themselves down when they are around her, but her & Shade also spend time separate from the rest but still interact.

This book also incorporates characters from the VIP Room series and the story develops with Lily starting to remember her past. Her past is terrible, heart-wrenching and will rip your guts out. Youll finally understand Lilys aversion to alcohol & men. The book may feel like it is going slow, but I prefer to see the build-up of Shade gaining Lilys trust and so on. However, I did get tired of Bliss during this book, deliberately causing problems & really made me wonder how the open sex between the member will work if only the men find a significant otherthere will be a lack of men for the women to have & will surely cause problems.

**SPOILER**
There was one scene that I despised that brought this from a 5-star to a 4-star rating. In a scene Raci is wearing Shades leather jacket with their club colors/crest. Lily sees & is rightfully mad. She asks for Riders jacket to wear home & this starts a fight. Shade punishes Lily with a whip (it was described as sensually painful). Lily uses her safe word, which Shade ignores, because shes trying to get out of punishment. It doesnt matter when or why it is used a safe word is never to be ignored. All play immediately stops & brings about a discussion. Shades reason for why Raci was wearing his jacket & he didnt stop her was weak at best. Both Raci & Shade knew better even if marijuana was involved & she was high. A bikers jacket/cut/colors are sacred & only his woman is ever allowed to wear them besides him. Its all about respect.

Reading Order:
Razer’s Ride (The Last Riders #1), Viper’s Run (The Last Riders #2), Knox’s Stand (The Last Riders #3), Sex Piston (Biker Bitches #1), Teased (The VIP Room #1), Tainted (The VIP Room #2), Shade’s Fall (The Last Riders #4), King (The VIP Room #3), Cash’s Fight (The Last Riders #5), Fat Louise (Biker Bitches, #2)

Shade\’s Fall audiobook in series Last Riders

This series is addictive. Start at the beginning with Razer and you will truly fall in love with this series. Read from the beginning to truly understand. I really enjoyed this book, it contained everything you could hope for in the world of MC, they are quirky in the way that they operate and to say they have loose morals is an understatement. It might not be your cup of tea but keep an open mind. Lily is very sweet, reserve, everything in her life is peaches, rainbows, and sunshine if not naive and prone to panic attacks. She hides the damage from her childhood that occurred before she was adopted blanked it all out. She is Beth’s (Razer’s is her husband is part of The Last Rider’s) little sister. She has a gentle but mischievous spirit and occasionally she is defiant. Shade is a brother in The Last Rider’s MC, he claimed Lily as his when she was a teenager, she was not aware of this. What’s the old saying, opposites attract? Well, it works well here. This book is different from the other’s as Shade is a Sniper and his needs are more about control. I’m sure you can imagine the road that might travel. This works great for Lilly’s character as she needs someone strong to deal with her issues and get her back on track. Happy Reading!

Audiobook Shade\’s Fall by Jamie Begley

This story has been building up now for 3 books. Shade’s desire for Lily began in Razer’s Ride. To say I was excited to read their story was as understatement.

Shade has always been a mystery. He was always the quietest and the most deadliest. I won’t say I was disappointed in this story because I loved it but part of the draw to Shade for me was the mystery of him. He barely ever talked and seemed so cold. Yea I know how is that a positive….well it is. Obviously, it was his story so he had to open up for us and put himself out there for Lily.

I will say Lily was always one of my least favorite characters. I know everyone deals with trauma differently she always seemed like this quiet traumatized child. It was a little hard to see her as a woman with how she was pictured for 3 books. I liked her better when she stopped being scared of everything. I guess her personality was perfect for Shade’s dominate personality.

Audio Shade\’s Fall narrated by Elizabeth Hart

I really loved this story. I love how long it was and how I got to really spend time with the characters. This is my first book by this author and I love her writing style. Shade is a dream. He has loved Lily and waited on her for years until he couldn’t wait any longer. Lily has some serious issues with the lifestyle Shade and his club lead. She feels left out because everyone tries to protect her from things that will set off her panic attacks. I got to know this couple so well I could continue reading about them. I was a little worried when Shade and Knox played their game with Lily and Diamond, but it turned out okay. I want so badly to read this author’s other works, but from the reviews I’ve read there’s cheating, swapping, or sharing in all of the books in this series except this one. I liked all of the supporting characters. The book was funny, sad at times, and very interesting. I didn’t want to put it down. I hated the end only because I didn’t have any more to read. I love the wedding Shade gave Lily. I can also appreciate how he made her feel safe enough to grow strong and confident. Their arguments seemed to drive her to become stronger. Lily’s childhood was horrible, but the author doesn’t dwell on it. Shade was no therapist and Lily definitely needs one, but I believe the way he made her face her fears was a great start to her healing process. I loved almost everything about this book.

I liked Lily and Beth, the sisters story is heartbreaking. Especially Lily’s, so it’s great that Shade gives her her HEA. I love that Shade clearly loves Lily very much and I get that she needs to be brought out of her fears. But Shade’s treatment of her was really not right at times. Lily is an emotionally broken girl, who has suffered a terribly abusive childhood, she seeks safety and gentleness. Yet Shade spanks her and their first intimate contact is almost forced, during an argument. It really didn’t feel right, it felt like the author didn’t understand her own character.

I don’t mind the scenes of sharing and watching others have sex in the first books, but it is seriously boring now. This book, especially with Lily’s past, could and should have been the one that did not have the same tiresome ‘sharing partners and the brothers watching the couple have sex’, that all the books in this series have.

The writing really isn’t the best in these books either. I read the first book Razor, over a year ago and only rated it 3 stars. So I didn’t read the next books until now when they came on k.u. Awkwardly phased sentences, missing words, sentences that don’t make sense, scenes lacking detail etc.
I’m also left asking questions because things seem to be missing. 3 stars but this series and the writing have lots of problems.
