I did not enjoy this story. It was disappointing after the previous book I had read by the same author (Where the Story Starts). The first 60% or so of the story dragged. It was unnecessarily wordy and boring. I also found a couple of the main characters unlikeable, particularly the main character, Ceciley. I found her annoyingly and unrealistically naive. *Spoiler Alert* – How could it not more clearly have occurred to her that she could have but had not made any efforts to find her daughter, Marnie, over so many years. She then seemed to continue to expect this daughter to initiate further contact rather than doing it herself. I finished the book but had to skip through some parts to do so.

The Last Piece was so well written – loved the well developed characters. Imogen Clark showed the many facets of the situation (no spoilers) to show real life. I would recommend this book to anyone that wishes to better understand family dynamics. In today’s world it can only help to better understand people’s differences and improve our world. Thank you for this story of real life.

Audiobook The Last Piece by Imogen Clark
I found this book very interesting and informative. I had never really considered the implications of the child not wanting to reunite even though I personally know someone in this situation. I hear people say, if you dont want a child now, simply adopt him/her. This is a painful account of what the young mother feels. I am grateful I read this book which has opened new avenues of thought for me to consider. I also enjoyed the family dynamics of Cecilys children. Her husband is a treasure.

Audio The Last Piece narrated by Laura Kirman
The Last Piece by Imogen Clark is a thoughtful story. It delves deeply into the lives of four women, the mom and 3 sisters. Each person has their own personalities, problems, and way of dealing with their issues, but they have a closeness that bides them in love and care for one another that is refreshing in this age of hate. Without giving away anything, I will say the dark element that is the inspiration for this story is very well portrayed. There is one character that we are never inside their head, but that is part of what made the story compelling. I would have liked a different ending, just because for me, it would have been more satisfying, but I can understand Clark’s ending. It had a finality that possibly was best for all concerned.

I had requested an ARC of this book through NetGalley and when I didn’t get it from there, I ordered it from Amazon after it was published. It was an easy and enjoyable read – the story of a close-knit family, but one with secrets. I like Imogen Clark’s writing style, which kept me guessing until the very end. Not sure I liked the end, but I still enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more by this author.
