Southern Player (Charleston Heat #2)

There’s a fantastic line in Southern Player, where Jessica Peterson pretty much wrote her own review for the book: “Five shooting stars. Or would it be exploding stars? Orgasmic ones, maybe?” And I totally agree- Luke and Gracie’s story was fantastic.

I had been (im)patiently waiting to get to know Luke better since he was introduced in Southern Charmer- an ex-MLB baseball player? Yes please! (And the author confirmed for me on Instagram that he did in fact play for my favorite Cubs!) Luke was just dreamy- a kind, genuine, caring man interesting in finding forever. He and Gracie were perfect together- the witty banter, super-steamy moments, and interactions were so refreshingly real. And just as she did with Southern Charmer, the author again teases us with snippets of historical fiction- it’s a genre I’ve never read but am beginning to see that I am missing out.

I am absolutely loving the Charleston Heat series and cannot wait for the next installment- Jessica Peterson never disappoints.

Gracie has been so busy trying to be someone elses idea of forever, she doesnt even know who she is anymore. When did she become so afraid to be herself, and explore her wants and needs? Well, shes about to try something shes never done before; fulfillment with no strings attached. And what better guy to fit the bill than one of her best friends, former baseball player and resident hottie, Luke Rodgers. His reputation as a player proceeds him, so she knows going in hes not looking for forever. Hes her brothers best friend, and her longtime crush, so its a precarious path to navigate and come out the other end with her heart and friendship intact. And why is Luke suddenly sounding like hes looking for more than just a hook-up?

Southern Player is book two in Jessica Petersons Charleston Heat series, and can be read as a standalone. The author once again brings everything I enjoy in a romance; a heroine who is smart yet vulnerable, a hero who is absolutely smitten, witty banter, lots of emotion, and white-hot attraction. Its a little bit brothers best friend, a little bit opposites attract, a little bit friends-to-lovers, and a whole lot of emotion and heat. The weather isnt the only thing thats hot and steamy in Charleston!

Gracie’s a well educated, linguist, world traveler, MBA business major, hot and sexy coffee shop owner. She had a dream of bringing a community together over good coffee and French pastries. She’s also has had a major crush on her brother’s best friend forever.

Luke, is a retired baseball player turned hot and sexy, shirtless, tractor ridding farmer, who had a dream of bringing people together over healthy food, and who has been crushing on his best friends little sister forever.

When Gracie is dumped by her forever boyfriend, she decides that maybe she should try the hookup thing and just have a little fun, marking some sexual things off her bucket list.
She decides Luke, would be a great person to ask for help with that, because he’s known as guy who gets around and doesn’t do relationships

Luke, decides he might like to try the whole settling down thing and his Gracie girl is the one he’s been crushing on for a decade and things seemed to have aligned for that to happen.

They each have their baggage that they must work through, but together they have Elijah’s blessing as long as no one gets hurt.

This is a well written, strong characters and sub characters from behind to end.
Even the place where it takes place is so accurate, that I felt like I was walking the streets of Charleston myself.
It’s hot, sexy, sweet and funny.
I’m so looking forward to the next book in this series.

Theres not one single thing I didnt love about this book. Every word spoke to me, every word held my truth. Southern Charmer, in my opinion, is the perfect romance. Emotional, heartfelt, visual, exhilarating, romantic, and one of the sexiest books Ive ever read. Luke and Grace are my new favorite couple!

Good lord. I don’t have words.
This story is truly one of development, for both Gracie and Luke. You’ve got the former baseball player turned farmer, passionate about his land and the community around it. And Gracie is the coffee store owner, expanding, living her life and grabbing it by the horns. Well, these two are on the opposites: Luke the supposed player, and Gracie, the strict relationship girl. And cue the chaos that will throw them together and bring them on a journey. It’s full of self-development.. sexually, emotionally. Finding out what people are comfortable with, proud of, and insecure of, and how difference can truly compliment each other.
They are just.. so perfect together, I love their story.
