Stacey’s Ex-Best Friend (The Baby-Sitters Club #51)

This book is so sad and good!!! Stacey’s friend laine comes to stonybrook. The get in a fight so laine goes back to NY and Stacy learns that her best friend has changed. I would say that if your 10 and up then you could read it but that’s my opion. So I can’t tell you any more:).

I like the book but I wish she (Ann,the author of the book) wrote how Laine responds to Stacey! I really want to know what happens!

My daughter loves this series!

As a homeschool parent, I was always on the lookout for the next book or book series that would really get one of my kids reading. Of course, interests vary, so book choices need to be tailored to each individual child.

When my older daughter discovered The Baby-Sitters Club books, I knew I was onto something. I must have bought 100 of these books, all of which she devoured. She also reread many of them. At that age, anything that gets them reading and keeps them reading is a win. From that perspective, I can highly recommend these books.

My daughter loved them so much that she was never willing to part with them. She now teaches fourth grade and took the books to her classroom!

One of the characters has Type I Diabetes. While I applaud inclusion of any character with a disability in childrens books, mistakes were made. We know this because my younger daughter has Type I Diabetes. But even that proved educational because we discussed the diabetes situations as they arose.

This book is a really good read and very realistic. The main plot is Stacey’s friend Laine Cummings. I have never really liked Laine so I was glad that she and Stacey initially “broke up” In this book Laine is aready acting different then usual over the phone. Throughout the book, Laine continually makes rude and snobby comments towards the BSC girls, and other kids at SMS. In the beggining, Laine referes to her boyfriend, King. Laine says King is 15 while Laine herself is only 13. At this point in the book, Stacey realizes Laine is maturing faster than Stacey thinks. Stacey does not want to break up with Laine, because together they’ve had 8 long years of friendship. What Stacey does not realize is that those years were full of angry fights. Laine’s snobbish behavior starts when she is goes to school with Stacey and it turns out Pete Black has a crush on Laine. Instead of being friendly to him, Laine is rude and selfish. Pete asks her to the valentine’ s dance, Laine agrees to go. But not before calling King twice and bad-mouthing Pete to him. Stacey asks her what her parents think of King and Laine responds by saying at first they don’t like his hair but now they don’t bother her about it. King’s hair is long an black with purple ends. Stacey thinks that Laine dating a 15 teen year old is inappropriate. When Laine says King cals her “babe” Stacey starts to wonder how Laine changed so much. Finally, the day of the dance arrives. The first thing Laine does js comment about how “babyish” the decorations are. Stacey thinks this is rude, but does not retort. Stacey finally puts her foot down when Pete asks Laine to dance. Laine refuses, saying she is tired. But wben a handsome boy comes up Laine instantly hits the dance floor. Stacey realizes that Laine is no longer the fun loving new yorker she used to be. Stacey finally figures out its time to let Laine go. I enjoyed this book a lot, and recommend reading it
