Just like with the first book in the series, I have also read this book twice. This series is one that I can’t get enough of and have come to love so much.
This book is even better than the first one. Like all the books in the series, the book is building up to a rollercoaster of a ride near the end. The characters all grow so much more in this book, and many secondary characters snag bigger roles than in the previous installment. There is something to love about all of the main characters friends, and something to respect about their caretakers and teachers.
In this book, we get introduced to new professors, that come to be some of my favorite of the professors at the school. The subtlety professor is devious and cunning, everything he should be for that discipline. The close combat professor has a really awesome power. He has strength and knowledge to utilize it and guide the students in his class.
I really love the theme of this school year. This curriculum was probably my favorite from all the years. The team focus really helped Nick shine in all his scheming glory, and we also got to know Alex and Camille better. The main characters’ team learns so much throughout the year and they figure out how best to work together.
Like with the last book, Nick and Vince are still my favorite characters (if I had to choose favorites). All the characters are amazing and with such a large cast, it shows how excellent Drew Hayes is at character development. Nick gets to really show what he’s made of in this book and he always keeps you guessing on how he will shake things up. Vince is still your unflappable good guy, and he’s still struggling with really showing all he can do.
When rereading this book, I was so excited to see the moments where Alice and Mary make some new discoveries. Alice’s growth in this book is remarkable and I love that she’s moving away from her spoiled past. Mary truly becomes the motherly figure in their group’s dynamic and she works constantly to help her friends.
Overall, this was another excellent installment in the series.

Why wait? For a low cost, you can buy a complete, four book series… you don’t have to wait for the last book to come out. This is a great book and a great series. In the Sophomore Year, the kids who had the procedure that let them control their abilities… they’re outed, and the natural supers who could control their abilities don’t like it too much.
This book sees several of the sophomores make big strides towards controlling and expanding their powers, and it adds interesting new teachers and classes.
Upcoming big reveals in books 3 and 4 are teased, but this book stands on it’s own.
Imagine The Incredibles meets Harry Potter (at college) meets Common Sense and Logic in the best possible way. The world building is at least as good as The Incredibles and the way the Hero Certification Program is set up makes way more sense than the way things are managed in the aforementioned big hits. I liked The Incredibles and Harry Potter, but this series is more adult, better, with characters that earn more respect from the reader.

Audiobook Super Powereds: Year 2 by Drew Hayes
Another year another set of crazy, the big goal this year, is the team battle event, and if our “powered” heroes don’t show their A game most of them will be cut after last year’s revelations. Great sequel, though got to say with such a “cut” mechanic its a wonder half the world did not become super villains out of spite by now….
Despite the blurb the actual “revelations” as to the kidnapping plot from book one are scarce. but there is enough other stuff going around that it does not matter all that much

Audio Super Powereds: Year 2 narrated by Kyle McCarley
After I read the first book in this series, I wrote a rather lengthy (for me) review and pointed out what I felt was the good, the bad and the ugly. I thought I’d follow up on those.
The Good — The good is still quite excellent. The author does a fantastic job of developing the characters, and his storyline is very well thought-out. He spends much more time on the Nick character this time around, rather than Vince, which I was a little torn on, because I’m a big fan of Vince. Still, that story was engaging, so I don’t want that to come across as a negative.
The Bad — Having read the first book in the series, I knew this one was going to be another long one, and I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t really mind that too much, but there are sections in the book that feature characters and storylines that don’t really seem to forward the plot all that much. I think some of those sections could have been edited out to shorten the overall length.
The Ugly — What really pleased me is that the ugly lack of editing was almost entirely removed in the author’s follow-up. I don’t think I spotted more than a few errors in the second book, and that really improved the overall state of the storytelling. This time through the ending didn’t feel quite as rushed as it did in the first book, and I am very much looking forward to the story of Year 3.

Better than the first one, and I LOVED the first one. One mark of a good book is that when a chapter ends with some info drop or cliffhanger by the time you get back to it you have forgotten it existed. All the characters and stories are compelling, you are never bored. Also the end is a masterpiece (mild spoiler) even if my favourite duo is now very unlikely to ever be.
