I have never finished a book and started sobbing at the end until now. Take it Back is one of the best books Ive ever read. Definitely my favorite book of 2020! My heart broke for several characters at several places throughout the book. My jaw dropped over and over again! I love that the story is told from various characters perspectives. Every time I was reading Jodie, I believed her. When I was reading the boys, I believed them. My mind was spinning in the best way possible.
What a phenomenal author able to yank me into a country and religion I am not accustomed to and make me understand and love and yet still manage to make it a thriller without making it political. I would give a zillion stars if I could. Its honestly THAT good. I cant wait to read everything else Kia writes!

This story was twisted in every sense of the word. Gang rape, facial deformity, islamophobia, misogyny, unimaginable relationships……and then plot twists coming, seemingly, out of the blue.
I was giving this book a solid 4 stars right up until the last couple of chapters when I had to reread paragraphs, saying aloud “huh?” “What??” I feel cheated when evidence that had not even been alluded to suddenly comes to the forefront in a trial!!
Throughout the book I was gratified that the author was articulate and the writing intelligent until I came to location 3308 on my Kindle and this sentence: “In one, she was on her knees with her tongue hanging out like a lapdog; in another, she was prostate beneath the St. George’s Cross;” (I italicized the word prostate). Whereas I can understand temporarily confusing the word prostate with prostrate, I cannot understand this error not being caught during proofreading! Or, is proofreading no longer being done before publishing. Sometimes it just seems that way!

Audiobook Take It Back (Zara Kaleel #1) by Kia Abdullah
The other reviewers enthusiasm for this book is understandable. It has many interesting twists. But there were many scenes in the book that did not strike me as authentic. Zara was so full of rebellion and self-hatred she just was not believable. She was the stereotype of a lawyer. No ring of truth. And I dont believe that Jodie would have let the matter end as it did. I wish I had not believed the gushing reviews. I was disappointed.

What a story and what an ending. This book has me wanting more, did Zara release the video, did Jodi finally receive vindication and did those disgusting boys get punished? Is there a part 2?
