Loved the story. Very clever twisting in the history and leaders into Allan’s life travels. There was much to laugh at and lots to wonder how Allan got through so many tight spots. I recommend the book.

I was ready for a (light read) after reading some serious stories. I picked this one because of the title. I was curious! I had no idea what I was about to read. One thing I liked was that Mr. Jonasson did not use quotation marks! When you are writing a story, they take so much time to insert. I am definitely not a history fan, but it was so cleverly, or ridiculously, used here.

Given this book is meant to be funny, it is an over-long telling of a repetitive story (two stories, actually) that will exhaust the generosity of most readers well before the end. I therefore recommend you Watch The Movie—but! Not the one made from this book, rather it’s sequel: “The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out On The Bill And Disappeared”. This is how I came to this book and it’s movie; and you don’t need to read this book, or see “the movie”, to understand or appreciate the other, and because it dumps most of what eventually sinks this book (and movie) it’s much better. There, I’ve saved you from having to read my review, although you may continue, if you want to, I won’t be offended. It is what it is.

I read this as part of the Richard and Judy book group list , I managed to read it all but really didn’t feel it was up to their usual standard of book , ok if you want an easy read

I bought this book after friends raved about it – maybe that raised my expectations too high, because i found it a bit silly.
In scene after scene, in which our hero performs all manner of physical feats and trials of endurance, at the back of my mind was a little alert going off, saying: ”that’s ridiculous – a 100-year old man wouldn’t be able to do that.” I did try to let this slide and not be pedantic about it, but it spoilt the book because it undermined the entire premise of the yarn.
If you are able to ignore this, then you’ll enjoy what is an entertaining adventure written in a light-hearted, smile-inducing style.
