I like many things about this author. I like that his books are clean – no disgusting foul language or unnecessary sex scenes to disgust me and make me put the book aside, even though I might like the plot ideas. There is enough action and suspense to make me not want to put the book down, as well as characters that grow and change. There is evil, but there is also bravery and heroism. I look forward to the next book in the series.

What in the world is worth saving? Bingmei can sense what people are really feeling, whether its love or disgust, and she can tell if a person is good, evil, or conflicted. She knows exactly what people keep hidden or what they dont bother to hide. Because shes different, she faces prejudice. But the same people who despise her tell her that its her duty and privilege to sacrifice herself so the world may survive. For a long time, she has believed that the world, with all its hate, prejudice, and deception was not worth saving. But now she sees the death and havoc caused by her refusal to cross into the Grave Kingdom. Echion, the Dragon of Night, is more evil and destructive than she could have possibly imagined. As her journey progresses, Bingmei discovers more and more people that she considers worth saving. Now all she has to do is make it to the Grave Kingdom. Jeff Wheeler does his usual masterful character and worldbuilding. Bingmei, our reluctant heroine, grows mightily through this second story, as does Rowen. This is is another enjoyable story thats hard to put down. The downside to this book is that it is not the end, and we must wait for the next story. Id knock off a star for The Buried World pretty much ending on a cliffhanger, as did the first book, but its business as usual for this author. Just not my favorite way for a book to not end. Very much looking forward to the next book, though, and hoping its the conclusion of the story. Awesome continuation of Bingmeis tale. I received this book as a digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) from the publisher through NetGalley. My opinions are my own.

Audiobook The Buried World (The Grave Kingdom #2) by Jeff Wheeler
There were so many fighting scenes in this book that it got annoying. I started skipping pages to be done with it. I wish there was more focus on character development. There are many characters in this series that lack depth, especially Echion and Xisi. I\’ll sum up their character for you…just evil. I\’ve enjoyed most of Jeff Wheeler\’s books, but this would be my least favorite. I\’m debating whether or not I should buy the last book of the trilogy.

I wasn\’t crazy about book 1 (maybe it was trying to keep up with the names) and wasn\’t sure i would continue the series. But then I said, this is a Jeff Wheeler series and I had faith the story would get better. And so it did. Book two was everything I was expecting in book one. It really gelled for me, so now I am waiting for and looking forward to the final book in the series in September.

The Buried World picks up from where \”The Killing Fog\” ended. It\’s a little later in the year, and Eichon is still hunting for Bingmei to force her to awaken his wife. I am enjoying this series, the second book sees Bingmei maturing and eventually accepting her fate. I enjoy the Chinese / asian influence in the world of the Killing Fog. There is plenty of action to keep you from setting the book down. I was sorry when the story ended, and can\’t wait for the 3rd book to see how the story is going to end. This is a trilogy, so you need to start at the first book and read them in order, to really know the characters and understand what is going on.
