Christmas time takes Jack Reacher to the South although the man is strong physically he does not like the winter very much. Snow all-around is a dull shine for this machine of a man. South is where the warm wind blows and makes the Christmas days look more pleasant.
Ironically the South does not possess such sceneries for him this year, there is snow everywhere and the gust of wind is quite pinching. Storm brings Jack in a roadhouse for a temporary shelter and he is surprised to see that he is not alone there. Four other men have also taken refugee because of the storm. Out of these four men, the two in uniform are looking quite pale.

The men are tense because of a specific reason which they are not talking about. Finally, the two broke and identify themselves as British military police. They were with a man whom they were supposed to protect but somehow he has gone out of their sight. With enemies on the tail of that VIP, his chances for survival have become grim.
Jack gets committed to helping the policemen but his commitment means a goodbye to the Christmas celebrations. Jeff Harding is back and although the narration does not surpass the quality of Night School and The Midnight Line it is equal to it. Lee Child has not yet looked exhausted in producing more of Jack Reacher’s adventures. There will come a time in the series when the listeners will get more insight into Jack’s character rather than his missions which depict his professional skills only.
