The humans from Earth have now expanded a lot into space. They discovered there a universe that is filled with different races of alien population, who were bent over their destruction. This resulted in the formation of a Colonial Union. The purpose of CU is to protect humans from the hostile universe. The CU also maximized the planet Earth and its population to be used as soldiers and colonists. It was seen as a very good arrangement for the CU. But, soon the Earth said “no more” to it.
The CU is now handling its affairs on borrowed time. It will be a maximum of a couple of decades before the Colonial Defense Forces ranks are depleted. The ever-struggling colonies and colonists of humans are more than ever vulnerable to those alien species. They were all waiting anxiously for the very first prominent sign of weakness to push humanity to the ruins.
In this chapter, you will see John Scalzi moving to the diplomatic intrigue from his usual military science fiction in prior chapters of the series. It was refreshing and something that the audience enjoyed as well.
