I am a transwoman who is having issues with the trans community ideology lately. I was starting to feel that things were getting a little too crazy. After reading this book, I know why I was feeling that way… Thank you Dr Soh!

At first glance, I thought this book might be a right-wing tirade about gender norms and the transgender community. However, this book presented a balanced and data-driven view of issues relating to gender identity and sexuality. I was pleasantly surprised by the authors acknowledgement of the realities faced by the transgender community while also combating common misinformation often found among trans activists, especially as it relates to gender dysmorphia in children. The author also does a pretty good job narrating, much better than many other authors who narrate their own books.

Audio The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths about Sex and Identity in Our Society narrated by Debra Soh
Being a liberal and a parent with an appreciation for quantentative evidence right now is scary. In the face of the ongoing political movement to encourage children to transition at a young age or learn that gender disphoria is societally more advantageous than behaving typically as your sex (both typical male and female behaviors being stigmatized), most people are cowed into silence on this issue. Not Debra Soh. With a highly clinical and compassionate approach, she speaks volumes of truth she will sadly be attacked for by activists who won\’t read her book or the studies she sites.

Much of the book revolves around the absurdities that are proclaimed by some trans activists, and the consequences of that. I had much rather read a lot more about the actual academic research available and what that meant. Now that part is sort of glossed over at the beginning of each chapters, before heading back to the discussions meant Ionel before, fueled by the authors own experience from her career as both scientist and journalist. I feel like the book has wrong title. Not enough science and too much bickering.
