This is the last book in the series-book five. In order for the book to make sense, the trilogy has to be read and then The Kill Order before The Fever Code. This book explains so much, is suspenseful, and has a huge twist. This was the best book I ever read and finished it in two days. Once done with The Maze Runner series, I recommend checking out the two other series by James Dashner. The one I\’m reading now is called The Eye of Minds. Another series he wrote starts with the book The 13th Reality. Happy reading!

The Fever Code is James Dashner’s final book in The Maze Runner series and in some ways, it’s the second book of the series, if memory serves! Yup, it’s that convoluted! This is yet another prequel to the smash hit series set is a dystopian world where everyone struggles to survive the harsh environment that earth became. Granted, my memory of The Maze Runner is pretty slim. I binged that series so many years ago, but luckily, since this book was a prequel of sorts, I thought it shouldn’t be too hard! I just won’t really remember who Thomas should not be talking to! Lol. Though honestly, it did throw me through a loop when the prequel opens with Newt’s point of view before turning over to Thomas for the duration of the book. I thought it an odd choice. We basically follow Thomas from day 1 in his “stay” with Wicked, back when he went by another name and had to learn his new identity. He was just a child when they started their education program for him. He knows there are other kids in the building as well, but he never gets to interact with them. I felt bad for little Thomas in this. No child should have to grow up alone. But it’s not long before he begins interacting with the other kids, if in secret. Kids we all already know too. As the years pass, Thomas and his friend/neighbor/co-worker, Teresa are brought up to believe that they are doing good by working with Wicked and trying to find a cure for the maddening disease that plagues their world. It’s at a later point they being to help construction of the maze, two in fact, that will help play a role in saving the world. Even though I know this book was a prequel, I did find it hard to keep up with this very world and the group known as Wicked. To be honest, I think they’ve confused me since day one! Lol. I think it’s more about not fully understanding Wicked and their motives that made this harder for me to get through. But I was still able to keep following along well, but yeah, looking back, I’m still wondering just what their deal was. It’s probably something that could be solved with a series re-read, but I really don’t have that kind of time! Lol. Looking at this as reading this series for the first time, I found the book to be very enjoyable. If I wasn’t so focused on trying to remember the series and what would come into play, I might have enjoyed it more. But in some sense it was sad seeing the characters that I knew would not make it to the end. It was also a trip seeing Thomas and Teresa, and some of the other guys before they entered the maze too! Dashner builds up the tension and mystery that is Wicked to an extraordinary amount. Though I held myself back with my trying to remember things, I still ate up these pages eager to see how things would turn out the way they did at the start of The Maze Runner, and yes, that is precisely where this book ends. If you’re a fan of The Maze Runner series (and haven’t read this one yet, shame on me, I know, I know!) this is definitely one you will want to add to the collection because it does wonders for the timeline procession! And if it’s been a few years since you read the books or watched the movies too, this would be a fun way to look back on how things got started. Overall Rating 3.5/5 stars

Audiobook The Fever Code (The Maze Runner #5) by James Dashner

I was so excited when I saw that The Fever Code was out. My kids and I are huge fans of the Maze Runner Series (they are ages 14 and 12 now), that we all couldn\’t wait to read it. I am the faster reader, so I read it first. This is a great addition to the Maze Runner Series. I felt that the series was not complete, unanswered questions, so I was hoping that this book would help fill in the gaps. I can honestly say that this book was amazing. I couldn\’t put it down, the book flows very quickly. If you have read the Maze Runner Series, then you will want to read the Fever Code also. For instance, if you were like me, and wondered how Thomas reacted differently to those in the maze (friends right away with Chuck, but didn\’t get along with Gally), then The Fever Code will fill in those missing links. It is a great addition to the series, and for me, it made the series complete. Love this series! Spoiler Alert: The book starts off with the story of Newt, and how he was taken to the maze, even though he was not immune to the flare. The next chapter, and from then on, focuses on Thomas\’s story and point of view. I wish that there would have been more stories of they other boys, like Alby, Minho, and Chuck. I think this would have added to the book. I did notice was discrepancy in this book, compared to the first book. In the Fever Code, it listed 40 members going to the maze at once, including Alby, Minho, and Newt, but this is not the same as mentioned in the original Maze Runner. I was disappointed about this, but it might not be that noticeable for others. I will discuss it with my kids, after they finish reading the book, to see if they noticed any discrepancies themselves, or if I\’m making a big deal out of something small. This book helps show Thomas\’s personality, which helps to develop him into the leader that he shows in the other books. I have to admit, the ending caught me off guard. I was a huge fan of Teresa, always rooting for her, in the other books. After reading this ending, I was very disappointed in her.

Audio The Fever Code (The Maze Runner #5) narrated by Mark Deakins

The first 3 Maze Runners were amazing, but the 4th and 5th books were dreadful. There were times where i had no idea what was going on in the book. I found myself struggling to attempt to finish chapters and at times i had to reread parts. I dont even fully get what the story was supposed to be about! Sad compared to his first few books, it seems like this one was written just to make the extra buck.

I really enjoyed this book as it pieces together some of the things that went on before Thomas and the boys ended up in the maze.It doesn\’t tell you everything but it does help your understanding and there are lots of twist and turns that you don\’t expect. As usual with the Maze Runner series you can\’t trust everyone and some parts make for unpleasant reading. You can read the other three books without this but if you are a fan I recommend this for a bit more insight and its great to read about. Alby, Newt, Minho and Chuck.
