In 1281, a Chinese general discovered the power of the laser. Now, centuries later, that early discovery could potentially lead to the end of the free world unless Juan Cabrillo and his Oregon crew mates can stop it first.
Cabrillo is initially hired to rescue a young boy who had been taken prisoner by Al-Qaeda. While on the mission, the group comes across the kidnapping of an American soldier. Rescued by Cabrillo, MacD Lawless is set to become the newest member of the Oregon team. With the boy safely rescued, Cabrillo and his team wait for their next assignment, which unfortunately turns out to be worse than the first. The group is hired to find the daughter of Roland Croissard. His daughter, Soleil, is known as an adventurer and she and her companion have disappeared in the jungles of Myanmar. Cabrillo and his team accept the assignment, but the events are about to change in an earth-shattering crescendo which could destroy the world, for even as the group is concentrating on rescuing Soleil, forces are at work stealing the U.S. nuclear launch codes. Cabrillo and the crew deduce that someone has developed a new quantum computer which has more power than anyone can imagine. To make matters worse, the computer’s owner has blackmailed the President and now threatens the safety of the world. Can Cabrillo and his team find the whereabouts of the computer and destroy it in time?
This is an excellent book. I’ve only recently started reading Cussler, but this is the best of his books that I’ve read. It’s easy to cheer for Cabrillo and his crew because they are the classic “good guys”; always out to defeat evil-doers at any cost. MacD Lawless is a fine addition to the crew of the Oregon, too. The story is explosive, and it projects what could ultimately happen if technology ends up in the hands of the wrong people. Highly recommended.

The Jungle audiobook in series Oregon Files
Clive Cussler and Jack DuBrul not only keep readers in suspense with their plot, but they also supply information about Myanmar and its population as well as the potential for computer warfare. The Jungle keeps readers in suspense with plot twists and surprising moves from various characters, so it provides a fun read.

Audiobook The Jungle by Clive Cussler Craig Dirgo
Another thriller by Clive Cussler/Jack Du Brul does not disappoint. Getting tired of reading free books, I decided that you generally get what you pay for. Based on a Marco Polo discovery, the authors weave a fantastic plot of the bad guy using that obscure information to develop a technological breakthrough to take over the world and create a worldwide Muslim “empire.”
I’m always impressed with the apparent knowledge and necessary research that goes into creating the advanced technology utilized by the Oregon. In this episode, the technology extends to the villains. If it’s dreamed up BS, it’s believable BS.
I also enjoyed the introduction of a new and exciting character, with high level physical and mental capabilities as well as hidden failings, giving him a human and totally charismatic persona. A cameo appearance of a Du Brul character was also entertaining
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fast moving thrillers. Although knowing the background episodes, the book still stands alone with whoever picks it up..

Audio The Jungle narrated by J. Charles
With Cussler now, i find i have to decide whether to read or not based on the co-author. Many of the series are burned out and boring now compared to the original Cussler books but this one with DeBrul is pretty good. I enjoyed it although it took me while to find it interesting but when i did, i was glad i read it.
The problem is none of the books compare to the first 10 or 15 original Cussler books and much of why i read him now is due to the goodwill built in by my being such a HUGE fan of him back in the day. I once had him as a top 3 author of mine and now he would not be in the top 10. As much as i enjoyed the second half of this book, i am not sure when i will be reading his next book. So many good authors out there, and in the adventure area he is not even close to Baldacci, Michael Connelly, Harlen Coben or many of the newer authors.
This turned out to be a decent review and now i see as that well, maybe not so much. Well, we all move on…

Chaos and fast paced. This edition leads us to a very scary look forward in time. We also meet “Hal’s ..” Friend , charming persona. The Oregon crew saves our way of life while introducing us to the future , maybe a sequel. Good read, really enjoyed.
