That is all a thing until the past of John and Jane reaches out to have the right back in the game. They had to serve as leaders of a completely new colony of humans. This has to be peopled by the inhabitants from all the key human worlds. There was a deep political purpose behind all this, which would put both of them back in the zone of interstellar politics.
