The Last Widow (Will Trent #9)

I’ve read all of Karin Slaughter’s books, and I’ve really enjoyed them, especially the Grant County series. Her books are almost impossible to put down once you start reading, causing me to ignore my kids for a certain period of time.

This book is the first one that I had no problem putting down. It was preachy in a few parts, and repetitive. Yes, we get it, hate groups are bad. Any sane person knows that a white power mindset is nuts. Any belief that people are better based on skin color is nuts. I didn’t need those facts pounded into the book, but ok. It’s a good book, just slow. I didn’t like the different times and dates throughout, and the 3 viewpoints that followed, it felt sluggish reliving every moment.

Please don’t turn this series into a feminism sermon.

As usual, a brilliant read however it appears that this novel is more of a soap box targeting anti-vaxxers and old white men who take away womens rights, and use those women for nefarious means.

I have bought every Karin Slaughter book but will not buy another. Her political statements in this book are not what I buy books to read. I want entertainment. I do not mind the gritty, but I do mind endless opinions on how awful white men and the military are. I also bought the Kindle edition and it was impossible with the formatting errors and repeated words. The repeated story line and the dates and times on the chapters were very difficult to follow in the Kindle format. You cannot turn back pages easily to see what has previously occurred and what time it happened. I will miss Will and Sara as they were great characters, but so long.

Thought I was reading a textbook. I tend to give my favorite authors a big, big benefit of the doubt. Couldn’t do it, no matter how much I tried. One of the most boring and pedantic books I have ever had the misfortune to read. Slogged through over 400 pages of drivel only because it was written by the usually brilliant Karin Slaughter. Crossing my fingers that the real Karin Slaughter is back for the next Grant County story.

I had pre-ordered this book and was loving it up until the final 15%. There were so many formatting errors and strange characters that it rendered it unreadable. I wish I knew how it ended. Please wait for an updated version of the Kindle book before ordering.
