I started reading yesterday morning and finished yesterday evening, it\’s a very good read. Well told story of brave women who prevail despite enormous setbacks and heartbreaking losses . Even with some tears at the end, I felt positive.

I can always tell how much I like a book when I find myself reading the back of the book, especially the Book Group Discussion and the author\’s biography. I fell in love with Vera and Edith, in part due to their tenacious personalities and perseverance. Somehow I forgot this was based on reality, because it was a large story. Everything about it was big and bold. The saying, \”truth is stranger than fiction\” seems to apply; because the lives of the best friends are so fantastical and fictitious that I forgot about it as truth. Thank you, Anita Abriel, for sharing your mother with me. She was courageous and bold, and true to herself. Edith\’s inner growth was inspiring, too. I enjoyed this book and I will never forget.

Audiobook The Light After the War by Anita Abriel
Vera and Edith experience the unbearable depravity of World War 2 as they run for their lives from the Nazis in Hungary into Austria. They survive while making their way to Italy, New York and finally settling in Venezuela. Life is finally becoming normalized for both young woman through success at work and personal relationships when tragedy strikes again. Vera’s husband dies and both woman confront a choice to start again but this time on separate continents. This is a story of persistence, strength, love, friendships, and family; this is where we all draw our ability to strive and our place where we find refuge.

This was a very interesting book, and I loved reading it as it gave a different perspective of life after the war for younger people in their teens and 20 bfore starting families, etc. i found it a quick read – love historical fiction as it teaches me about the time period but without history right in your face (it puts a story to it). Anyway, great book and. would recommend!
