Oh, my goodness! This book left me in awe! It was an absolutely fantastic read, taking me on a thrilling adventure from start to finish. Every aspect of this book was simply astounding, from the well-crafted characters to the vividly imagined world and the impeccable writing. The scenes were so vividly described that I felt as if I were right there alongside the characters, experiencing the magic and chaos unfolding around them. Taran Matharu’s talent as an author is undeniable, and I have no doubt that he is one to keep an eye on. It’s safe to say that this book will easily find its place among your favorite reads of 2015, leaving you eagerly anticipating the release of the second book in the Summoner series.
Fletcher, the main character, was an absolute gem. He brought a refreshing and original quality to the story. Right from the start, as I read from his perspective, I had a sense that he would be unlike any other male lead character I had encountered before. He was like a breath of fresh air. I admired how Taran Matharu portrayed him, allowing him to act his age, while also laying a strong foundation for his growth throughout the book. By the end, it was clear that no matter what challenges Fletcher faced, he would approach them with maturity and find strength in the face of adversity. Suffice it to say, Fletcher was a highly likable character, and every moment spent with him was a delight.
The secondary characters were equally wonderful, and even though we didn’t delve deeply into their backgrounds, I have no doubt that we will grow to know them as if they were our own friends. Vocans Academy intrigued me immensely, and I’m eager to see where the story takes us next. And I can’t forget to mention how much I adored Ignatius! He was the epitome of cuteness, and I loved the protective bond he shared with Fletcher. Never did I imagine that I would yearn for a demon of my own… especially one like Ignatius.
Where this novel truly shines is in its world-building. Taran Matharu effortlessly weaves intricate details into the narrative, ensuring that readers grasp all they need to know about this fascinating world. There’s even a glossary at the back, detailing the various types of demons! Personally, I find it delightful when authors go the extra mile to immerse readers in their created world. This novel is pure fantasy, brimming with magic. Although orcs, elves, and dwarves abound, the world remains uniquely its own. I genuinely felt like I belonged in this realm of summoners and their demons. The magic system was expertly described, setting it apart from the conventional wand-waving kind. The author’s creativity left me speechless, and I relished the experience of learning alongside Fletcher. It added another layer of immersion that made me feel like an integral part of the story. The magic in this novel is not to be taken lightly; it’s perilous and demands careful handling. Upon finishing, it’s evident that there is much more to uncover, and that The Novice is merely an introduction to a grander world and a grander tale.
I wholeheartedly recommend diving into this book. As I mentioned earlier, it has easily become one of my favorite reads of 2015 thus far, and I can already tell that the Summoner series will secure a spot among my cherished favorites. I’m eagerly anticipating what awaits us next in this extraordinary series!

The Novice audiobook Series Summoner
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It provided me with plenty of entertainment and excitement, at least until the final few pages. I understand that the ending was meant to set the stage for the next installment, but it left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

Audiobook The Novice by Taran Matharu
Este libro es similar a la serie de Eragon: repleto de fantasía, orcos, enanos, elfos, humanos y demonios. Fue sumamente divertido y no pude dejar de leer hasta que había terminado los tres libros.

Audio The Novice narrated by Ralph Lister
The pacing of the book was well-executed, and the story itself was fantastic. My only wish was that it could have been longer. The ending left me on a cliffhanger, so I highly recommend getting the second book!

I stumbled upon this book at an incredibly affordable price in my country, even cheaper than any physical copy. Once I read the sample, I was instantly captivated. It’s an interesting blend of elements from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Pokémon. Although it may seem like an unusual combination, it surprisingly works well. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a shot.
