I was pleasantly surprised by how engrossed I became in this book. It proved to be an absolute page-turner from start to finish. The narrative presents multiple perspectives, leaving readers questioning who is telling the truth and who is fabricating lies. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, with numerous moments where I found myself uncertain about what had truly occurred.

I must admit, as Emily delved deeper into Kristen’s past, things took a rather suspicious turn. The conclusion turned out to be quite wild, although I had a sense of anticipation leading up to it. Nevertheless, the predictability did not diminish my enjoyment of the story.

I was pleased to find that the author skillfully tied up all the loose ends, leaving no room for confusion. The ending was exceptionally well-crafted, satisfying and fulfilling. If you have a penchant for psychological thrillers, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Its gripping plot and resolution will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.

The author demonstrates a remarkable command of language, employing an abundance of metaphors, similes, and an impressive vocabulary. This book is devoid of typical and mundane descriptions. The story itself is compelling, with well-crafted suspense that keeps readers engaged. The ending is substantial and could have easily filled an entire separate book, but instead, it is condensed into a few pages. While I understand the decision, a part of me desired a different outcome. However, as a reader, I respect that I am not the author and can only offer my perspective. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

I generally don’t gravitate towards fiction, but I saw this one & was intrigued! It did not disappoint and was SO good! I couldn’t put it down! It’ll totally have you on the edge of your seat until the very end! I highly recommend this one!

Books like this make me pause and question. I find myself repeatedly asking why so many people have given this book a 4/5 star rating. How can they endure the incessant and repetitive thoughts of the main character, Emily? The middle portion of the book seemed to be an endless rehashing of events.

Some reviewers have criticized the writing, but I felt it was adequate enough to establish, from the very first page and even the first line, that Kristen is a toxic and manipulative character. However, with Kristen now residing in Australia and Emily in her beloved Milwaukee, the portrayal of Emily as a naive, self-unaware, gaslighted character fell short. This lack of authenticity in Emily’s character resulted in predictability and a clichéd narrative throughout the majority of the book. Additionally, the male characters embody stereotypes of toxic masculinity, except for the introduction of a wonderful new boyfriend who, after only five dates, wholeheartedly supports Emily.

I must admit that I did not anticipate the ending, which includes an accident-or-not accident scenario. However, reaching that point required significant skimming on my part. The tone of the last 20 to 25% of the book undergoes a noticeable shift, featuring a lawyer who must possess extraordinary skills to produce enchanting legal briefs and deliver spellbinding press conferences, assuming any of it is to be believed.
