Forcing people to believe the news that is not there is like toying with their minds but that’s how it goes in a dictatorship. George Orwell puts before us the era of dictatorship in which the society works under the cruel rule of Big Brother and the Thought Police. No one can raise any objection to the way things are going in the locality.

The government of the ruling class only tells the people things which they think are their right to know. The rest of the information is considered top secret and is shunned by the general public. Among the commoners of the world, there is a man named Winston Smith who just gets tired of all this fuss and decides to bring change in this robotic society. He wants to get to the truth all the time but this is not allowed and whoever reaches to it is brainwashed that instant.
In a dejected mood in the end we see Winston trying to adjust himself to the routine and laws of society. As the story moves on we reach the era of 1949 and are amazed to see that the society still lives in the same shackles of dictatorship from the inside. George Orwell’s most works are like this, the author criticizes the government in the famous Animal Farm too. Simon Prebble completes the novel well although the start in narration was a little shaky initially the narrator came up well in the later stages. A listener cannot say that there was only criticism in the novel; the story was also there i.e strong and impressive.
