THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA AUDIOBOOK
The novel is among the masterpieces created by Ernest Hemingway. It defines the theme i.e “Man can be destroyed but not defeated”. The story is about an old man named Santiago who has just run out of luck because of which no tide is moving in his favor anymore. For months he hasn’t caught any fish and most of the fishermen think that the old fisherman has become the sign of bad luck so no one should accompany him.
THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA
However, the old man is not pessimistic at all and he is still ready for another great fishing expedition. This shows how hopeful he is about life and is willing to do great things in life. He gathers courage through the old achievements which have decorated his life in the past. These old achievements like the victory in an arm wrestling match give him power and also assures him that he can achieve the impossible.
The novel is also symbolic as well because the sharks which attack the old man are the tough competition against which he cannot stand anymore but he still goes down fighting. Perhaps when Donald Sutherland narrates the sleeping condition of the old man at the end it is his death but he is resting in peace because he has faced everything with courage.

For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Sun Also Rises were not written in such simple language also they were more realistic in approach. This book is great for the kids as well because it does not possess adult material like other novels which the author has created in his initial career.
