Okay, I am hooked on Cynthia Harrod Eagles’s series about the fictional Morlands of York. I think story-wise I would give the story four stars, but after an incredibly frustrating read on my Kindle app for iPad, I demoted it to three. The Kindle version was electronically scanned (I assume) so badly that following the story was a challenge. For example, there is a family – a rather important one at that – named Butts. The Kindle version constantly reads Buns! Also, so many sentences begin with “Tie…” when the real word is “The….” There are confusing italicized names – obviously a scanning problem. There were a few errors in The Founding, a few more in The Dark Rose, and an incredible number in The Princeling. If you like this series, buy in it paperback and save yourself the frustration. My paperback copy the #4, The Oak Apple, is error-free. I will not order Kindle versions anymore.

The Princeling audiobook in series Morland Dynasty
Most series start to get dull along the way but this one is still very good at this point. Characters change often enough as it is a history of the family throughout centuries. The historical part continues to be as intriguing as the fiction itself which is very rare. This one focuses more on the family itself but still plenty of history. It will be very interesting to see where the series goes from here for a number of reasons which I won’t say due to spoilers. A great book worth reading!

Audiobook The Princeling by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles
There is no one like Cynthia Harrod Eagles I have read all the Morland Dynasty books, now years later re reading The Princeling covers the time of Queen Elizabeth Ms Eagles always has a strong female character and in this one we say goodbye to Nan Readers who continue on reading Ms Eagles series, which is now at the end of WW1 (the Dancing Years) Going back and reading all again is a treat Every war, every political situation and how they cope and thrive This book was excellent

Audio The Princeling narrated by Christopher Scott
I am enjoying the story of the Morlands, but am disappointed that the editing for the Kindle version is so full of errors. It was almost laughable. I purchased the next three books, and am hoping that they will be an improvement. I have to agree with another reviewer that Ms Harrod-Eagles would be quite dismayed at the treatment of her novel.
I read the whole series of the Morland dynasty several years ago except this particular book which for some reason was much more expensive than the others. When I saw it had gone down in price, I decided to read it wondering how Cynthia HE would deal with the Elizabethan period. Well, I was somewhat unimpressed. I agree with those reviewers who complain about the way she deals with awkward characters by getting them to meet a convenient death!
I felt she was much more comfortable in later centuries, the French revolution, the industrial revolution, the sinking of the Titanic, women’s rights.
There was not a strong male leading character at the head of the Morland family in this book and the title does not really reflect its content. Children came and went, moved away or exiled. In particular the subplot dealing with William, the musician seemed very much like an add on, not bringing anything to the main story.
Still it should not discourage people from reading the whole series as it provides an entertaining and informative overview of British history from the civil wars to the 1st world war.
I am waiting for her new series to come down in price on Kindle but am looking forward to reading it

I have enjoyed this series, not great historical fiction but absorbing and well written. However, the kindle version is deplorable, even laughable. The author would be offended, I think, that her book was treated with such disrespect. Words are not only misspelled, but also misplaced and wrong words transposed, numerous times. I began to think that the original was transposed to kindle by voice recording and by someone who simply could not speak clearly or was drinking wine and slurring their words! I honestly don’t know how such a poor product could reach the market place and that I actually paid for it!
