The Skies of Pern

F’lessan, the only son of Lessa and her mate, is the protagonist in this book. He turns out to be a far more complex and interested man than those like Mirrim ever thought he could be.
As usual, MCaffery highlights everyone and everything without creating confusion in the mind of the reader.
Recommended for all readers of the dragonriders series. If you haven’t begun reading the series, please for your own sake go to the beginning of the series. If you start with this book, you will be hopelessly confused.
And you will enjoy the whole thing. Be aware that the “complete” series available on Amazon omits the three Harper Hall books and you will have to buy them separately.

Its been a few years since AIVAS self terminated and the mission to move the Red Star is complete. The dragonriders arent sure what use they will be after this Turn is over then a very large meteor hits the water between the islands, causing tidal waves that flood the coast. Everyone wants to know what the dragonriders are going to do about it. Tias dragon has learned to use telekinesis

I SO wanted to give this book five stars. Five stars because I miss Anne McCaffrey and she showed a different way to depict women in science fiction. Five Stars because I got to go back to Pern and enjoy the dragons and dolphins. But I just couldn’t.

Had I read this a long while ago when my eyes were still good, I might have given a higher rating. I wouldn’t have had to listen to the narrator, Dick Hill’s version of the story. Ugh! He makes all the women sound like weak whiners. Even Lessa, who is supposed to be a strong leader, Mr. Hill diminishes with his vocal characterization. But there was no text-to-speech so I was stuck with his voice. And there is no loanability for these books. What the Heck! Poor people want to read, too!

But maybe Dick was only working with what was there? Did our dear Ms. McCaffrey write the book with the male heaviness I felt? I just wasn’t happy with how it progressed. It took me much longer to read, just because it didn’t pull at me like, say, her Harper Hall books did. Okay. I did read most of this series about twenty-four years ago. Whew! That is a long time ago!

It was only near the end of reading this book that I realized that this was the last solo book of the series. I will now have to look up the continuation written with her son, Todd or those he wrote alone. I have a few sitting here, but I will have to find the Kindle versions and Audibles to get by.

SO as much as I miss our dear Anne McCaffrey and her love and talent, I have to stay truthful. This just wasn’t my favorite Pern.

I’ve collected, read, loved & reread all of Anne McCaffrey’s PERN Series. I was very glad that F’lessan finally gets his Forever , in this last Book in the series. AM masterfully weaves the action/adventures, tragedies/triumphs, suspended & romances from the previous storylines to amazing/satisfying conclusions, in this Novel!

Even if you’re not a SciFi fan, you’ll fall in love with this Engrossing, Action/Adventure Romantic Suspense Story like I did!

I have read every book McCaffrey has written. It takes a real wordsmith to make me want to read everything someone has authored and that is what McCaffrey is – a wonderful wordsmith. I have all of her books in print and many in digital format. I read them when each one was released in paperback and am so enjoying rereading these tomes. Her books draw you into the worlds she creates – as a non-author I am truly amazed that someone can do that with only the written word. The Skies of Pern is a well done conclusion to the the series. I liked the part where the dragon riders have found a new craft and hold now that read threat of “threads” has been resolved. My only negative is that McCaffrey has passed and will no longer produce wonderful worlds to explore.
