When I read Althea and Nathaniels story I found Constance intriguing because I knew there had to be more to her reason for wanting to be a wallflowers. I thought what did her father do to her? He was an abusive drunk to all his children. And of course Robert had been horribly abused by his father and then at the asylum where he was basically tortured for being epileptic. These two people grew to love each other because they understood each others pain and as a result they both overcame their fear. But it was the sweetness and gentility shown to Constance by Robert that really made me love him too. And there is a scene where Constance sticks up for herself at a wedding breakfast that literally had me a blubbering idiot. I like a book that pulls my heartstrings, that makes me do enraptured by the relationship and characters that when the reach the top of the mountain it makes me cry to see their pain but cheer their victory. This is a lovely book. One of the best I have read in a long time… now about her brother Stephen… can not wait to see what he does for Miss Abbott…

By far this is my favorite of the Rags to Riches Series so far. The truth about Robert, the Duke in the title, is real and uncomfortable, and will never be solvable. But the grace and fortitude he meets the world with and the love he finds with Lady Constance and the hopeful future they begin to build together make for a heart warming, truly fine and absorbing read. Ms. Burrowes has produced a very fine portrait of overcoming adversities that does not disappoint. And I thought Constance would be the least interesting sibling!

Audiobook The Truth About Dukes (Rogues to Riches #5) by Grace Burrowes
I can rarely say anywhere near enough good about a Grace Burrowes novel because they are so splendid. The Truth About Dukes is yet another example of the beautiful writing of this amazing author. Her prose is simply lyrical and her characters are people you would be delighted to know. By the same token, however, there is always more to her romances than meets the eye. There is always a touch of mystery, an unexpected twist, or an unusual occurrence that demands eventual explanation. Grace Burrowes has created yet another such novel, and it is delightful from start to finish.

Audio The Truth About Dukes (Rogues to Riches #5) narrated by James Langton
The times have challenged most of us. I desperately needed a good escape, found in my lazy chair, and Grace Burrowes again was my relief. I’ve been waiting for Robert’s story, his victimization by his father was brutal. He deserved his heroine who was forced to fade into the woodwork because of the history she shared with her own upbringing. A perfect match, or in this case rematch. I deserved the smile of satisfaction reading the final pages. Thank you.

This is one of those books that I had to put down from time to time because the tension and my concern for the characters became a bit too much.
Ive read a lot of Grace Burrows work and she has occasionally disappointed me but I am happy to report that this is not one of those times. All of the elements of a satisfying story were there: interesting plot, wonderful characters, good pacing, tension and release, a believable HEA.
Overall, a cracking good read.
