This Time Will Be Different audiobook free
This young adult novel tackles several heavy issues: racism, homophobia, parental expectations, conflict with friends, and changing economic issues. The main character, CJ, is a Japanese American who doesnt know her father, and we see CJs family businessa flower shopstruggle, and the lengths she goes to in order to avoid selling the business to the family which profited off the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. There are several wonderful scenes which show the right and wrong ways to be an ally, and characters are called out when they mess up. CJ makes plenty of mistakes and her friendship suffers as a result, but she manages to work things out by having difficult conversations and examining her own prejudices. Overall, a well-drawn examination of the lasting effects of racism and how best to move forward and not repeat the mistakes of the past.

I was obsessed with this book. The story is going very well and there were times when I thought “what ?!” but what really obsesses me is the thread that leaves loose. I felt that something was missing at the end, but I really chose it for the author and the cover so I’m not going to complain

Audiobook This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura
Misa Sugiura has created an intricate novel that will resonate for so many different readers. This Time Will Be Different shines a light on the Japanese American experience, self-worth, mother-daughter relationships, friendships, love and feminism. The writing is at times funny, always insightful, and CJ is a delightful, believable MC for this coming-of-age story. Well done!!!

Audio This Time Will Be Different narrated by Joy Osmanski
Ms. Sugiura writes with uncommon beauty and sensitivity. My daughter an avid reader loved this book and has re-read it several times. She also loved Ms. Sugiuras first YA novel, _Its Not Like Its a Secret_, and we have given it to lots of her friends as gifts. So grateful for excellent YA literature!!

Well written, addresses some very important issues that teens will relate to. Good read for high school aged students, some issues a bit too mature for the majority of my 8th graders.
