I came for the romance and stayed for the suspense!

I took a chance on this one. I feel like I am in pretty deep where the online book community is concerned. I had not come across this author or this book anywhere though. I found it randomly on Amazon, read the blurb, ordered the paperback, immediately texted my book twin to say it sounded like her thing and she needed to read it too (she did, and loved it also.) I’ll be the first to admit, I am not very adventurous on trying new authors if I haven’t heard a lot about them. I’m very pleased with my choice to dive in here and take a chance. I also have a feeling that Becca Steele will be a named mentioned a lot more now when people read this book. I know I am dying for the next in this series.

So admittedly, suspenseful romance, historically isn’t something I feel drawn to pick up very often. I’m wonder why that is now because my experiences with the sub genre has been nothing but short of amazing.

The Lies We Tell is set in a sort of elite college, Alstone. Winter has just transferred in for her second year because her father had passed away. Something didn’t smell right where his death in concerned. So Winter takes it upon herself to go see what’s what. Enter The Four. You know their type. Ridiculously gorgeous, aloof, mysterious. That whole, all the girls want them and the guys want to be them. And guess what, they despise Winter. The ring leader making it his mission to make Winter run away from Alstone with her tail tucked between her legs. She doesn’t know where the hostility is coming from but she just continues to roll with it. I loved Winter. I thought she was an exceptionally strong female lead. I also loved all the guys in The Four. They all have distinctive and unique personalities. They’re all loyal to each other, as they have grown up together, and then Winter comes strolling into town and really shakes things up. I for sure signed up for the romantic aspect.. but the suspense kept me there. I wanted answers. Still do. I cannot wait for the next book of this series to be here! I think I am going to love getting to know more and more about all of the boys. My only critique would be riske scenes and much sooner. Most felt a little too fade to black for me and I’m not here for that. But the angst made up for it a lot. So did the overall storyline with its mystery. So I will be be picking up book as soon as it given to us.

So yes, I would definitely say pick this book up. I’m gonna be over here, wasting time… waiting for the next book!

The Lies We Tell is book 1 in this new series by Becca Steele and I absolutely loved it. It is unlike her London Suite series because this series is darker. I think that’s why I loved it so much. If you like strong heroines and alphahole heros, then story is for you. Winter is thrown into the world of The Four and they are not happy about it in the beginning. The Four do not trust Winter and think she’s there to cause trouble and plot with her mother. Little do they know the real reason she is there. I was hooked from the very first page and didn’t want the story to end. It flowed very well and that cliff-hanger!! Seriously, I NEED Book 2 NOW!! Hopefully it’s not too long of a wait. YOU NEED to read this book!

I knew this book was about college students, but the characters came across as immature. One character did catch my attention and that was Zayne – I would love to read more about him!

5 stars but would totally give it way more. I loved this story. Becca hit it out of the park. Girl!!!! You wrote an amazing story. Winter goes to live with her mom and new step father who she never has meet along with 2 step siblings Caiden and Weston. Caiden, Weston and their 2 friends Cassius and Zayde are known as the four. Rich royalty. Caiden treats Winter like crap. She doesnt understand why….but no worries you’ll find out their back story. You’ll fall in love with the four and Winter. This story will throw curveballs at you that you wont see it coming. It does end on a cliffhanger. I cant wait for the next book in this series!!

After the death of her father Winter has questions and she believes her estranged mother holds the answers. She has transferred to the college close to her mother with the intentions of creating a relationship that they have never had but she didnt expect to become the target of four sexy men of which two happen to be her stepbrothers.

Caiden is hiding a painful secret and he has trust issues when it comes to anyone outside of the four. He is determined to make Winters life as difficult as possible but as the story unfolds, they may find out that they make better allies than enemies.

Not only are Caiden and Winter captivating but so are the rest of the gang. The combination of secrets, steam and intrigue all add up to a compelling storyline that leaves you wondering what the future holds for this group. The choice of the narrators was spot on and they made a great story even better. AudiobookObsession
