Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors

As someone who fell madly in love with the guild codex series, and really, really liked the demonized series, I was sadly disappointed with the sophomoric language and linear plot in this book.

From start to finish, kit Morris’s finds himself on his back foot, powerless at the tender mercy of everyone he meets. With the exception of one scene, this entire book was completely without agency. Furthermore, the romancing was heavy handed and unbelievable. All and all, I had to actively push myself to finish it. If you’re a 13 year old girl, this book might be for you. If you’re not? Prepare for disappointment.

I have read all of Annete’s Marie books, and none have let me down. Now, I didn’t know what to expect from a book co-authored with a guy, but I’ve got to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised.
The book flowed well, the characters were amazing, the plot thrilling. There isn’t one thing I didn’t like about this book. Although I did almost have a heart attack at some point, not gonna tell you what point though.
Annette Marie is one of the few consistent authors that delivers top notch writing with each of her books. They are always perfectly edited, not even a spelling mistake. The world building is fascinating and it makes you want to take residence in her head.
I can’t wait for more, because this made me love Kit so much, and I’m a huge fan of Lienna and her penchant to kick butt and take names. I already ship them so bad.

A lot of time and imagination went into this book. I would’ve never guessed the ending though. Kit is mentioned in the Demonized and Guild Codex series so his character is familiar, but how he becomes part of the MPD and how he learns about his magic is the basis of this book. It’s definitely quite an adventure full of crazy new magical abilities and a new breed of evil magic users/abusers. There are plenty of captivating and intense moments balanced with explanations, conversions, and travel. There’s a touch of romance intertwined in the plot as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and plan to read it again. I plan on preordering the next book in the series because I want to know what happens next. It was worth the purchase price. But, for those of you who don’t want to buy it you can wait till next December and read it for free.

It’s a 4.5 stars for me!

Kit’s book reminded me of Tori’s: hilarious, curious, and a sense of mystery for the main character who’s seemingly stepping into a new world of magic. Kit’s already had a jump on Tori but I love that he still has so much to explore. About the world or himself, both are beyond entertaining.

Kit and Lienna’s relationship is hilarious because it’s the classic “bad guy” and “good cop” spiel, but seeing it from Kit’s point of view, someone who’s just had a bad start in life, makes it a little more interesting. The MPD agents kept a good ‘bad cop’ motto and it did a lot to change the mood of the magical world, making it different from Tori and Robin’s set worlds despite all being in the same place. And knowing that we’re going to get a closer look at the MPD themselves is exciting in itself, but just being able to see new characters who can expand on this world that Marie’s created is one of the main reasons why I love these books so much. It never gets boring and there’s always more to explore.

This installment was a nice introduction to Kit’s stories and I thought it was a pretty good total package: adventure, danger, romance, comedy, and the mushy memories that make you wanna cry in your hot cocoa. The Crow & Hammer get a little spotlight in here so if nothing else I’ve said has convinced you, I hope that does! Seeing references from Tori’s series made me want to reread her books again to see if Kit’s anywhere in the background, and this is for sure a series I recommend you pick up.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC for this book & am seriously grateful. Kit is different from Tori & Robin. Its refreshing. Hes quirky & has plenty of pop culture references at his disposal. Getting to meet him as a criminal and getting a look into the MPD system is insightful. Leaning how he made his way to becoming a MPD agent was fun & full of discoveries. Like what his magic is & how rare the ability is. Lienna is a badass babe. Seriously. Shes smart and kind and realizes that the MPD isnt perfect. That makes her Kits perfect match. I cant wait to continue diving into their world!
