Whenever I see this author Paige Toon is publishing a new book, I one-click it without even needing to see what the story is about.
I LOVE her books! They are always filled with adventure, swoonworthy heroes, and strong independent women. I’m never ready to leave the story, when I’ve turned the last page.

This story is about Bridget. If you have read some of Paige’s earlier books, you might think the name Bridget sounds familiar…. and you would be correct! Bridget had a small role in The Longest Holiday and Thirteen Weddings. This does not mean though that you as a new reader would have to read these two books to read The Last Piece of My Heart. It’s a standalone, but as an old reader you will get updates on characters you know. One of my favorite things about her books too. You get these nice little surprices!

Bridget is so much fun! She’s adventurous, and have traveled all over the world, working as a travelwriter. Right now she is focusing on her blog, where she tells the stories about how she search out her ex-boyfriends to get the pieces of her heart back. She’s hoping it will be the book she has always dreamed about writing, but her agent is not entirely convinced about her idea. But they like her voice, and thinks it’s very similar to an another writer, Nicky, they had. It’s here the story begins, because Nicky is unfortunately dead, so they want to hire Bridget to ghostwrite the sequel to her very popular book. If all goes well, this could be Bridget’s way into publishing her own book.
She travels to Cornwall to meet Nicky’s husband, Charlie, to see the notes that Nicki wrote for her sequel. Following 7 weeks camping in beautiful Padstow, Cornwall, research trips to the places Nicky had in mind for her book, and reading Nicky’s notepads and diaries to get an idea of how Nicky wanted the book to end. It’s all very exciting reading, because it turn’s out there are similarities between Nicki’s life and her book. What does this mean for the husband, Charlie?
I love it when a book get my thoughts spinning, and it all turns into a conspiracy. Family secrets, oh I devour you.

Charlie, oh dear is he fantastic!
I’m so swept away by him that from now on I’m going to say Johnny Jefferson, who?. It’s all about Charlie now!
Widower, single dad, woodcrafter. I thought he was a really great guy. By the time Bridget visits them (Charlie and his baby daughter, April) it’s less than a year since his wife Nicki passed away. His daughter was only a few weeks old at the time. His story really touched my heart. Watching him struggling with both the responsibility but also his grief, and still do his best to be a great dad I admire him. You can not help but love him, and wanting to help in every way you can.

A beautiful and heart touching book that turned the pages of itself. And it gave me a desperat need to go camping in Padstow, Cornwall.

I think the book was great. It is a lovely love story with great heroes. I think that some of the storylines had lots of buildup that came to nothing much (like Issak’s part) but it was good nonetheless.

Audiobook The Last Piece of My Heart by Paige Toon

A story of love, grief, human relationships with others and with ourselves.
This was for sure, a different story. The same level of proximity with the characters and the landscape regarding all of Paige Toon books, but to me this was about a greater love: a girl who thought to have a future figured out, a widower and a little kid.
Once again, reading Paige Toon is being left with warm memories.

Audio The Last Piece of My Heart narrated by Jan Cramer

I loved it. Bridget is so likeable, I really enjoyed her story and I wanted her to get her happily ever after. I couldn’t put it down.

I love Paige Toon. I love how all her books are linked together through secondary characters. Just like a family tree. I get excited when I hear she has a new book coming out but then I read it so quick the next one seems sooooo far away. Then I go back and reread her other books!
