Yes! I have been a fan of Kristi Coulters for quite some time and I’ve been looking forward to this short, delightful read. It’s honest, hilarious, and relatable (even the parts that aren’t relatab!e are highly entertaining, because not everything has to be relatable to be great). I actually laughed and cried reading this, which I usually do one or the other but never both. She’s becoming one of my favorite writers!

Some children create imaginary friends. However, this fourth installment of “Tho One” collection deals with that strong platonic friends that has all the chemistry and tensions of an almost romance that never happens because had it ever become physical, it likely would have ended tragically and quickly. But, because it stays within some mystical boundaries, in grows into an imaginary steamy fantasy, hidden in the quiet recesses of the heart, becoming impossibility better than any reality. Plus, it comes with no strings attached, regrets, or destructive powers.
This short-story interpersonal conflict emerges as the author’s tantalizing storytelling takes her to the limits of her forbidden-fruit boundaries to create a conflicted tale of a multi-decade emotional affair. We feel her internal struggles between her wonderfully solid marriage that just a bit too plain and the lanky man of her dreams who’s just out of reach.
This compellingly stressful story consumes the energy from the author’s life and the neverending drama playing out in the reader’s mind. Not sure what I expected, but I felt a little let down with the ending, which was okay.
There’s got to be a valuable message in there somewhere, but I’m still working on that. Definitely thought provoking and possibly more common than we might think, the storyline seems exhausting to both the author who lived and the reader who endures it.
Guess I should never be surprised at what imaginative and repressed author’s can create. The Audible narration, read by the author added depth to the story’s roller-coaster ride but left me saddened.
I plan to explore some of Kristi Coulter’s other works.

Audiobook Yes, And (The One #4) by Kristi Coulter
Coulters tale of reckoning with scary feelings that might end her fabulous marriage is insightful, engaging, and f#$&ing relatable. When she begins to wonder what her desires might mean to her future, she does something admirable. Instead of stuffing her feelings under buckets of wine, she tries instead to say, Yes, and and the result is a beautiful essay about love and want.
