This book was just okay, in my opinion. I am not one of those people who enjoys reading stories or watching shows or movies about the disease of the week or any other kind of real life drama. Depressing story lines, tearjerkers, and dealing with the realities of terminal diseases are not my kind of thing. When I read fiction, I want escapism from the realities of life. This book doesn’t provide that kind of escapism (not until the VERY end, anyway).

I was totally depressed throughout most of this book and really just wanted it to be over. I felt so bad for Mary and Rhage, for different reasons. Their dates were abysmally painful to read about, especially the first one. Despite feeling sorry for Mary, I really didn’t like her very much through at least the first half of the book. She was unnecessarily hateful to Rhage, and there just didn’t seem to be any reason for that.

Of course, ultimately, they got their happy ending, but man was it a rough and unenjoyable road to get there. Ugh. I already have the next book in the series on my Kindle, so I’ll definitely read it at some point (though I’m taking a break from this series for a while). If the next one winds up being as depressing as this one, I doubt if I will continue further with the series. Like I mentioned earlier, I read fiction for an enjoyable escape from the realities of life, not to feel sad and depressed.

Lover Eternal audiobook in series The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series

Whether it was the main characters or the plot in general I’m not sure but I enjoyed this one far more than the first book (although I still skipped or skimmed most of the Lesser’s POV chapters). I wasn’t going to continue this series but then on a whim I decided to give Rhage’s story a try and I’m glad I did! For whatever reason this one held my attention late into the night and until I read that final page. I’m still not the biggest fan of the actual writing (lots of repetitive adjectives again lol) but for me I just clicked with this story more than Wrath’s and what’s nice is that since these are semi-standalone stories you could probably skip to the book that interests you most…well at least with the first few books, after that things seem to start to get really tangled and interwoven (plus book 1 really laid down a lot of groundwork explaining the world/vampire lore). Anyway, the next book is about Zsadist and his story was set up a bit in this book so I’m definitely going to read that one!

Lover Eternal audiobook by J. R. Ward

Im a new fan of the BDB series and I loved Rhage and Marys story! He is cursed for what seems like an eternity and is a lonely, misunderstood character. He is destined to live with a barely controlled monster and avoids intimacy lest the monster within is unleashed.

And tonight? Youre going home to Wellsie. Im going home alone. Just like I did yesterday. Just like Im going to do the day after. The whoring isnt fun for me, and its been killing me for years, so please give it a rest, dig?

Mary is also lonely and suffering from a serious illness. She doesnt consider herself anything special but she attracts the attention of Rhage. Hes immediately attracted to her but their relationship slowly builds and is incredibly sexy and loving.

Rhage shivered, a balmy rush blooming out all over his skin. The musical lilt of her voice, the rhythm of her speech, the sound of her words, it all spread through him, calming him, comforting him. Chaining him sweetly. He closed his eyes. Say something else. What? she asked, baffled. Talk. Talk to me. I want to hear your voice again.

This is a witty, sexy and action-packed paranormal romance that is perfect for fans of Alpha heroes and hot romance. Im not sure why I liked this book so much but everything just clicked. And bonus, this is really two love stories in one. Zsadist and Bella begin their story here and I must say I cant wait to read their book.

Theres lot of back-and-forth here between Rhage and Mary. Hes afraid of harming her and shes sure that Rhage could never be interested in someone like her.

There was absolutely nothing about her that courted notice. She wasnt anything like the females he went for. And she held his attention like a marching band. Hello, Mary, he said softly.

I cant imagine another character in this series with depth of the warrior Rhage. I loved his unwavering loyalty to the Brotherhood and the lengths he would go to for Mary. Even if youre not a fan of paranormal romance, this story is fantastic and inventive and thoroughly engaging. Its unexpectedly funny and very, very sexy. Lucky for me that I have the whole series on my Kindle! All the praise to J.R. Ward for writing a very different and very memorable paranormal romance.

Lover Eternal audio narrated by Jim Frangione

Well, I read this book many years ago and this was one of my favorite stories of the BDB. Rereading this story I have found Mary annoying in the beginning. I found Rhage pushy and demanding and not straight forward with Mary all the time. How they made it I don’t know, persistence. It ended up leading to a beautiful romance. I am glad that Mary worked through it with him and that Rhage became a much better brother by the end of the story. I like that Mary gave him her trust and he gave his devotion and love. This was one rollercoaster ride of a story and I was happy to take the ride with them. Some times during their romance I needed some tums to stomach what they put each other through but in the end I am so glad that they saw the light. I also notice how the Scribe Virgin repairs her relationship with Hollywood at the end as she did at the end of the last book with Wrath. I was so pleased that Rhage that smart mouth got his HEA.

I have to admit to reading till 0600 and only then stopping as I literally dropped my tablet on my face! I just had to keep turning the pages. The number of times I made myself promise to stop at the end of the chapter only to find myself having to read on as I simply had to know what happened next! I have laughed out loud, squirmed at the vileness of the descriptions, giggled at the sass of the heroines, cringed at the alpha males being so thick and then cried when moments were so touching I couldnt help but allow the tears to fall. Totally addictive, craving to know more about each of the characters and downloading the next book before I have even finished writing my review. Brilliant.
