There are so many parallels between Orwell’s 1984 world and Trumpism.
Newspeak vs David Duke’s Politically Correct language, Trump’s fake news, Fox News, OAN, and Ministry of Truth, Homeland Security and Ministry of Love, Thought police and NSA, and the “endless wars going on Somewhere, with someone, and they hated us and we were supposed to hate them.
Orwell lacked the imagination to envision a two party system so opposed that they would morph into each other to create an illusion of choice and freedom.
Ultimately, the goal is consistent, concentration of wealth and power by a small elite, and gradually eroding the quality of life for working people, with a layer of managers and technocrats between them.

Orwell’s masterpiece defines the outer limits of a totalitarian regime. Power over others by an invisible and cruel government. run rigidly a d without deviation by a mysterious few, aims to dehumanize life in every way, leading to hatred as the primary motivation for action. While Orwell makes it seem plausible, the outcome becomes hideous and unconscionable. Read it and gain a new level of appreciation for democracy, and cherish the freedoms we in the United States too often take for granted.

We were warned years ago what would happen in the future- with GOVT control-loss of freedoms and much more. Young and Old should read this book!

Audio 1984 narrated by Simon Prebble
The book 1984 is considered a classic, but I found it boring and rushed to finish it. I had expected new insights about the corruption of power. Instead i was forced read repetitive depictions of artificial, uninteresting people and imaginary places.

Free audio 1984 – in the audio player below
I bought this book used on purpose (it was about $8) since I was in a hunch and I had to get it for an AP English class at the time, and I was impressed with the condition it came in! All that matters to me is that all the pages are there, and that was exactly the case with this book.
