Mind Game

Christine Feehan is a great author, I love the Dark series, and the Wild series. This Game series has a nice plot. They have been out for awhile, I started the series a few years ago and there was some strange numbering of the first 5 books, so I gave up. That doesn’t seem to have been totally resolved yet, but I worked it out. However, I love to listen to books via Audible, but I REFUSE to pay over $4 for audible version, especially if I just shelled out $8 for the digital version. Yes, I am cheap, but we all have to have standards. Anyway, the even numbered books in this series are $30 and $40 bucks, ARE YOU KIDDING ME, I could go to a nice dinner for that, take the whole family to the art museum, have a date at the movies, all sorts of things. I feel as though the publisher is yanking me around. so, I will read the even books and listen to the odd books; and scream about the injustice of it all until I am bored.

Engaging 2nd entry in the GhostWalkers series.

This novel focuses on GhostWalker Nicolas Trevane, the silent, serious, sniper introduced in the first novel in the series Shadow Game. Lilly Whitney Miller just recently regained her memory of the other adopted girls she grew up with for several years while her adoptive father Peter Whitney cruelly experimented on them all. She now believes she has located the 1st of the now grown girls. Nicolas offers to go make first contact and try to bring her in, afraid that the possible ally, Dahlia Le Blanc may just as easily be too unstable in her power and a danger to his team or even an enemy. He’d rather place himself in danger rather than risk the safety of one of the others.

Instead Nicolas gets drawn into a life or death battle to try and save Dahlia and learn the truth about a conspiracy within the NCIS. Dahlia works deep cover recovery for the NCIS and barely anyone knows of her existence. Suddenly teams of mercenaries are at her home and tracking her, killing everyone she knows in a merciless path to kill her. Why or who is a mystery. How she’s going to work with Nicolas is one of the most frightening thing loner Dahlia has ever had to face because she is very unstable in her capabilities to control her GhostWalker talents around others and always keeps away from everyone.

Watching these two loners learn to come together and battle their way through conflict after conflict, personally growing and trying to learn to work together, is a joy. And I can’t lie, as soon as I met Dahlia’s NCIS handler and former Navy SEAL Jesse Calhoun (poor tortured Jesse Calhoun) within these pages, I knew he was the GhostWalker for me. LOL. So much to enjoy in these pages.

Its a little early to say, okay not really as I have read the entire series before, but I think this book might be my favorite one. Nico is my image of the perfect guy, strong, silent alpha male, he just projects calm and a restfulness that his lady love needs to thrive. These two have an explosive relationship, literally, the walls actually catch on fire, and it takes them a while to find their zen. But when they do it leads to one of the best HEAs I have read in a while. You are not going to want to miss what this author is capable of doing when she puts pen to paper. I cant wait to read the next book.

Dahlia was used to working by herself and didnt realize that she might need help until Nicolas helped her to escape the night she was supposed to be killed with the rest of the family at the house. Dahlia still wanted to save one of the people she considered family by herself but she didnt expect Nicolas to be a Ghostwalker and know what she was going through with her own gifts. Now if only they can get the energy to stabilize and stop starting fires they just might stay alive long enough to accomplish saving her family and learn to love each other.

THE STORY: The Ghostwalkers are enhanced people with various paranormal powers. One of the rejected female test subjects, Dahlia LeBlanc has powers that are difficult to control and which leave her vulnerable to the strong emotions of others. When Nicolas Trevane comes to find her as part of the GhostWalkers project to determine the fate of others of their kind, he arrives just in time to see an assassination attempt on Dahlia. The two end up on the run together fleeing. They have to discover who has betrayed Dahlia at the same time they are falling for one another.

OPINION: I liked the first part of this book very much. It was exciting and adventurous. Somewhere in the middle, the story seemed to be repetitive with repeated attempts on Dahlia and then escape. I got bored for a while and then was interested again when the story picked up with a purpose of finding the villain. The romance between the two had the same pattern to me: fascinating meeting and buildup to sex, then sex, sex, sex and then a true breakthrough in their emotional response to one another.

WORTH MENTIONING: There are more Ghostwalkers.

FINAL DECISION: Overall, I liked this book although I felt it was repetitive and dragged in the middle.

CONNECTED BOOKS: This is the second book in the Ghostwalker series. It is not necessary to read the first book as this book gives a good summary of the story to this point.
