I’m tempted to say this is the best Andy Carpenter book ever, but I might feel that because it is the most recent. Even if you haven’t read any others in the series, I believe you will like this book. The story is exceptionally good with surprises revealed in the last few pages. I believe it could be read as a stand-alone and thoroughly enjoyed. I am an avid Rosenfelt fan and enjoy the humor sprinkled in the books. Dr. Dowling, real-life veterinarian, makes another appearance in this book, and author Rosenfelt gets a mention. I am eagerly awaiting the first book about Laurie’s new team. If you are a dog person and haven’t read the two non-fiction books, “Dog Tripping” and “Lessons From Tara”, you absolutely need to read them immediately! I believe anyone who reads this book as their first Andy Carpenter book will want to read the whole series. Usually in a book series, some are better than others. In the Andy Carpenter books I think they are all great. This book and all the other books get your interest right away and keep it throughout the book. No slow boring parts to contend with. An added benefit if you are a dog person is that in buying David Rosenfelt books, you are helping buy beds and kibble for the senior dogs the Rosenfelt household rescues.

Dachshund Through the Snow audiobook in series Carpenter Series

Downloaded this book mainly based on the title “Dachshund Through the Snow”. My granddaughter told me about it after seeing an ad for the book on Facebook, because the dog on the cover looks like the dachshund I had for 13 years until he died almost a year ago. Based on the title I thought the story was going to be a mystery involving a dachshund. There is a dachshund in the story, Murphy, who belongs to a boy whose father is tried for a murder that occurred 14 years ago. However he is mentioned less than occasionally throughout the book with no involvement in the plot. I enjoyed the book though, but disappointed that the dachshund wasn’t involved more in the storyline as the title implied.

Audiobook Dachshund Through the Snow by David Rosenfelt

Every time I read a book by David Rosenfelt, I know that I will not stop until the last sentence. So, I wait until I have a couple of free hours and I have never been disappointed. The Andy Carpenter series combines two of my favorite things, humour and love of dogs. In fact, I wish Willie could train every shelter, pound and pet store worker his high standards of selection and his no nonsense way of letting the inferior know to leave and leave quickly. Unfortunately, he did not have a big presence in this book..but start at the beginning of the series and you will get the gist. The more controversial the case, the more ridiculous Andy Carpenter can make it but his wonderful, Tara, keeps him somewhat in check. This book has one difference, it sets up a spin off series, the K Team. I love the characters, he dogs and the cases. All scream of heart and innocence. The best aspect of this particular book is the length of Andy and Laurie’s Christmas season, I wish I could have been adopted because three months sounds like the season I would like to have..the spirit of giving to those less fortunate, a worthy cause. Read to enjoy but he warned once hooked, this author will become one of your guilty pleasures, too.

Audio Dachshund Through the Snow narrated by Grover Gardner

Andy Carpenter is at it again — annoying lots of people, delaying retirement to reluctantly defend an accused murderer, and having his life saved several times over by people (and a dog) far braver than him.

The story begins with Andy’s wife Laurie and her obsession with Christmas. She pulls a kid’s wish list off a tree, resolved to fulfill his wishes, and one of his wishes is to bring Dad home. Laurie looks into it and finds out that Dad has been arrested for a murder committed fourteen years earlier. The case rests on incontrovertible DNA evidence. Andy is condemned by Laurie to defend Noah Traynor in the spirit of Christmas.

Andy’s investigation uncovers a plethora of surprises. There are plenty of trigger-happy bad guys behind the scenes — and a very clever person manipulating everything. The court scenes are dramatic. Andy’s team and his wisecracking friends exhibit all their usual eccentricities. The humor is corny, but pretty funny.

The title of this book makes me cringe. But I couldn’t help enjoying the book. The Andy Carpenter plots tend to follow a formula, but it’s a good formula, and I find the stories entertaining anyway.

I so do like the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt. Each is complete and no one has to read all the previous books in the series to enjoy any one of them (although it’s a lot more fun). There is always plenty of Andy’s hilarious trade mark sarcasm and wit; I laughed out loud at times. Some years the book has a Christmas theme, and so this one came along. It was really a good read – if you like legal thrillers, this is one with plenty of authentic court room scenes. It doesn’t just pay lip service to the Christmas season, either. There’s lots to enjoy about how the Carpenters celebrate the season. At it’s core, though, this is, as always, about the dogs. Any has a rescue and always has about 25 dogs for adoption. This particular outing has him saving a Dachshund named Murphy and being saved by a big dog named Simon. I loved it. It also has an interesting twist at the end; the bad guy isn’t who you might have suspected. I am able to guess whodunit in a lot of the mysteries I read, but I didn’t get this one! Pick it up for yourself or for a friend. You won’t be sorry.
