DI Hillary Greene and team are back in the fourth book of this exciting series. Greene was working on the Fletcher case that Detective Chief Superintendent Jerome Raleigh was in charge of. She was also SIO on murder case of Malcolm Dale (‘a wannabe Tory politician’).
This was a decently paced murder mystery with an interesting storyline. The characters are very familiar and the surroundings even more so. Faith Martin knows how to tell a good story and blends an overall plot and several subplots effortlessly. I followed the investigation as it unfolded and tried to guess who was guilty of what. I figured out one guilty party early, but did not know exactly what he was guilty of or what motivated him. As more clues came to light, things started to make sense then would come the twists and turns every good mystery has and you would realise you had it wrong. The cases were solved and there was more than one surprise before the story ended.
AfterThought: The ending referring to a continuing part of the storyline was a bit of a shocker…

Murder in the Village audiobook in series DI Hillary Greene
D.I. Hillary Greene once more entertains the reader with the realistic portrait presented by her creator, Faith Martin. Although some of the plot is easily discernible, stand by for some twists and turns as the cases wrap up. I hope other readers like this book as much as I did and appreciate the time spent by Ms Martin on increasingly fleshing out her characters, both the “regulars” (even Frank Ross) and those just created for this book.

Audiobook Murder in the Village by Faith Martin
At long last her dead husbands ill gotten gains get sorted. I am not happy with Raleighs access to the Mallorn. Did he get the padlock open? Also how did he twig to tbe Dick Francis book.? Very sloppy plotting. I love the glossary of slang. I am also enjoying looking ul various criminals. Amazon did a very bad chronological listing of books. Bad Amazon, bad, bad, bad. I really hate knowing of one mans death etc.

Audio Murder in the Village narrated by Gemma Dawson
Wonderful series! So glad I discovered Faith Martins Hillary Greene series. Ive read 8 so far, and can’t wait to read the rest.
Rather than commenting on each book individually, Ill just say that its a great collection of police procedurals, set in Oxfordshire. They’re not at all cosy, but theres no superfluous gore, either.
We meet intriguing people, glimpse gleaming spires, picturesque landscapes and down-at-heel housing estates, and find ourselves bouncing along with Hillary in her Tragic Wagon in search of villains and the answers to more personal mysteries.

DO Hillary Greene is back in the next book in the series by Faith Martin. Again Martin delivers an excellent mystery and police procedural. It is full of twists and turns and an unexpected and perfect ending. The characters are quirky but real and the mystery is one that keeps a reader’s attention. I think this series is a must read and I assign the next book with anticipation!
