Your Blue Is Not My Blue

I applaud the author for revealing her pain . That said, the book could have been 100 pages shorter. Girl suffers trauma, enters horribly codependent relationship to cope with trauma, loses her ability to function when said codependent relationship ends, spends very little time searching for husband, writes a book, spends lots of time unable to purchase groceries or put in her contacts or really do anything without someone telling her what to do, then recovers. All within a span of just a few years.
The synopsis hinted at some deep secret as to why her husband disappeared, and this is what drew me to choose the book. Instead, after flipping through the pages looking for a shocking reveal, I found nothing other than immature persons incapable of relationships.
Again, a well written book, but page after page of nothing had me flipping pages wishing it was over.

If you like books about spoiled, privileged young women who think the world revolves around them and who expect to be supported financially and emotionally by their parents, in-laws, and spouse without giving anything in return just because they are so, so very special, then this is the book for you. If you prefer memoirs where the author has actually reflected on her past, gained insight and grown as a human then I would suggest you skip this one. Im actually angry that this was published and disappointed in myself that I finished it.

This could have been interesting story, but is very overblown. The author was too young and failed to see the many red flags that were evident. Had she been a little more experienced shed have recognized the great guy who cant commit. This is not a man who was interested in wedding invitations or the trappings of a conventional life. That his secret is so utterly ordinary is anticlimactic. Bottom line, this is a story of 2 mismatched, privileged people who shouldnt have married. The writing is florid and every description is over written. It could have been much crisper without waxing eloquent about every leaf. I skipped to the end and that was enough for me. The story does not merit this much thought and detail. I dont recommend.

I am nearly done with this book. It captured my attention because the husband just disappears without warning. Unfortunately, the prose destroys the book. If you ever needed to see an example of purple prose, pick up this book. Nothing escapes stultifying descriptions. The writing is overblown, immature, and dramatic without needing to be. Sentences are laced with full-on analogies, smilies, and other-ies without needing to be.

This is the story of two very different, fragile individuals who come together at the wrong time, wrong place, and for the wrong reasons. They mistake passion for love and we are off.

Actually the husband takes off and by the time we finally get there, the reasons don’t seem to matter anymore. The author, Debby/Aspen doesn’t seem to think so either.

What I found curious is how they paid for their very expensive rents in New York and San Francisco when neither of them was working. This may make for a better mystery than the book itself.

This memoir didn’t hold my attention despite an interesting premise. Perhaps I was expecting more but the characters didn’t resonate with me.

The hiking part in the beginning was full of descriptive prose which I did enjoy. After Justin left and Debby was attempting to figure out what happened, it became depressing to me.

It may very well be your ‘cup of tea’ but definitely not for me. Please read and make up your own mind about the memoir.
