. Readers should enjoy experiencing the literature that formed the foundation of the books they read today (even if only, supposedly, in opposition). There are writers here many younger readers will never have heard of, and, reading them, will discover that a lot of \”new\” fiction has been around the block a time or two.

As with most anthologies, I liked some stories and disliked others. Some are reprints and well worth reading more than once. Some are new. The most remarkable story is not by a David, the last one in the book. Barry Malzberg is excellent.

I\’ll freely admit that I bought this because I thought the gimmick was funny, but this is really a great collection of a variety of short stories in a variety of genres. There\’s military sci-fi, high fantasy, urban fantasy, comedy, tragedy, the whole buffet. If one story doesn\’t take off for you, you can just skip to the next chapter and get something totally different. Perfect for relaxing during my lunch breaks away from my desk.

A fun little collection of stories whose only connective thread is that the authors are all named David (more or less, Barry Malzberg wrote a story, but it\’s at the end and it\’s called \”The House of David,\” so I guess he\’s some kind of guest star). Some of these stories are new, some reprints from back in the day–but they were new to me. I saw other reviews say they didn\’t think the old stories aged well, but I think that just makes them more interesting. I buy everything David Afsharirad edits, the man puts together a mean anthology.
