A tenor returns to his home and his family after disappearing thirty years earlier. He has barely aged in that time and his mother is convinced that he has spent the time in the faerie world and that accounts for his lack of aging. Gil Cunningham and his charming, intelligent wife, Alys are convinced that this young man is not all that he seems, yet they must unravel the truth of the disappearance and reappearance of a talented tenor in the choir. This is a great tale that blends the superstitions of the Highlands with the reality of an intelligent super sleuth of the fourteenth century. When read in order with the other novels of the series, this novel is extremely satisfying. I enjoy the use of the vernacular Scots and the Gaelic; the realism is therefore far more credible. A good read, a solid read and an intriguing read. I have enjoyed this series. I am also a medieval fanatic and this factor influences how and what I read.

The Stolen Voice audiobook in series Gil Cunningham

This is another enjoyable mystery in the Scottish Highlands. A somewhat different approach than the last two books in the fashion the leads investigate, but the mystery is more complex this time. Pat McIntosh does a very good job in placing the reader into the feeling of the time and the cross cultural issues of the time. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in the genre of 15th century mysteries. A side note, for most American readers, you might find the need to research some of the Scottish terms, but it is well worth the time.

Audiobook The Stolen Voice by Pat McIntosh

I\’ve enjoyed all the gil cunningham mysteries but I still say they woudl be far more enjoyable with a link to the old words she uses.. even glossary…apparently she now provides a website to go to …but while you are reading a mystery do you really want to take the time to go to a website to look up a word that you think just means door in some old english or scottish language…

Audio The Stolen Voice narrated by Andrew Watson

The author has done a lot of research into the way people lived and thought during those times. Much better reading than authors who put 21st century ideas, morals , etc. and pass their novels off as \”historical\”. Her books are something I look forward to reading!

The Gil Cunningham series is very interesting. I like the settings and the attention to detail and history. I have found the last two, this one included, to be less engaging. There are some very intense and engaging segments and some suprises. These are what keep me reading the series along with the depth of the characters.
