October Surprise: How the FBI Tried to Save Itself and Crashed an Election

The book seems to be objective for the most part which is refreshing in this day and age. Provides an inside view of the FBI and their relationship with the executive and legislative branches of government. Explores both the Clinton email scandal and the Donald Trump investigation into so-called collusion with the Russians. Because the author obviously does not support President Trump it is interesting that the facts presented, for the most part, exonerates him. The entire embarrassing episode turns out to actually be a \”witch hunt.\” Evidence that completely destroys any predicate for the investigation of first, Carter Page and then Donald trump surfaces early on in the investigation and as it proceeds it becomes clear that the entire thing was a mistake. Then because of Trump\’s public comments there is an investigation opened into obstruction — of an investigation that should never had been opened. This appears to be directly the result of Andrew McCabe\’s hatred of Trump. I give the book only 4 stars because the entire book seems to be an attempt to blame the loss of Hillary Clinton in 2016 to the interference of the FBI, most notably, James Comey, for twice making public announcements of the email investigation. That is just an opinion and one more excuse that Hillary Clinton can add to her list. The book is certainly worth reading. All the familiar names are in it. It is fascinating as the events unfold leaving us toward the final conclusion that is happening now before our eyes in 2020

I did not understand why Comey did what he did. This shows the man did what he committed himself to do which was to keep Congress/American people aware of new developments when they came to light. He kept his word. And the rest of the book tells you how dysfunctional our government system really is. Our government is slowly killing itself with its own stupidity, greed, rear end covering and power hungry elected officials. What a mess we have gotten ourselves into.

I read the Mueller report. This is a book for people that want to believe the William Barr version of the report.

Strong reporting. There was a lot of new-to-me info, and I’ve read a ton of books on this era and topic so that’s impressive. The format, following the calendar by day, was helpful in putting it all in perspective. It really held my attention despite having read on the topic a lot already, so someone who hadn’t yet should be really fascinated.

A very thorough and logical exploration of the events.
