I bought this Kindle book yesterday and was in the mood for a story with laughs. The book was advertised as Humorous Science Fiction. The first 50 percent of the book was just okay, there were definitely missing or broken sentences that could have been fixed with editing, and the story was so-so. At about the 50 percent mark, per my Kindle, the author finally found his stride and at about the 70 percent mark the story got really interesting.
Where the writing was not effective was where it tried to be funny. Writing humor doesn’t come natural to many writers – describing *funny* so that it makes people laugh is a talent that many writers don’t have.
(Read Patrick McManus short stories to see examples of mastery in humor writing)
I see that the front covers of book 2 and 3 say “Cozy Science Fiction” – and yes, this book would fit that description.
But, I bought the book because the title was “Jane Bond: Humorous Science Fiction” – so ended up disappointed.
I love humor and love a book that makes me laugh out loud. That didn’t happen.

This is humorous science fiction. Not LOL funny – it doesnt claim to be – but nice gentle humour with engaging characters and well-described and well-paced situations. Writing of this get out of the way kind takes skill, and the author has it.
Im confused by a recent review which highlighted unfinished sentences. I found only one, then realised it was intended. Everything else read fine.
Recently there has been an increase in genre crossing fiction in the kindle universe. This story, for example, is neither science fiction nor light romance nor humour nor adventure but some gentle concoction of them all. Increasingly readable as it progressed, I liked the story a lot and definitely plan to buy and read the next in the series

Audiobook Jane Bond (Jane Bond #1) by V.R. Tapscott
If you’re looking for a hard-core scifi story this ain’t it, but if you’re looking to be entertained for four or five hours this is perfect. This story presents a good scifi premise, has great believable characters, is funny, romantic, and over the four or five hours our heroine gets into some very interesting situations. This is scifi on a level that the reader can relate to, there’s not some mysterious force that controls the reader’s destiny, no magical deus ex machina moment, not even any simple tricks and nonsense.
I would recommend this to anyone!

Audio Jane Bond (Jane Bond #1) narrated by Tess Irondale
What a fun read! Quirky with believable characters and an interesting story. Well written. The ending was a surprise but also believable. I was chuckling and guffawing so much that my spouse requested a print copy for herself (she doesnt do ebooks).
Pardon me while I go get book two now.

So…. chapter1,prologue and chapter2 (yes that’s how the book downloaded) should be deleted and a new prologue should be made and Ch3 would be a good Ch1, also did the author even attempt to format the book? its all just 1 large wall of text.
Chapter 1 and 2 are written in present/future while chapter 3 and following chapters are in “past” then switches to future/present in ch7 that’s a massive annoyance for me at least, It usually just kills the story.
