This was a good book but I had already watched the Hallmark movie of The Hannah Swenson stories! So I knew who the murderer was! But the story line was different in how the murder took place and things that happened in the movie weren’t in the book and vice versa! So hopefully I haven’t read\seen book three yet!

Strawberry Shortcake Murder series Hannah Swensen

I became a fan of Joanne Fluke when I took a cooking class and the lady that was teaching the class made some of the recipes from the book! This was the first book I read from this series (even though it was the second book in the series,) and I liked it so much that I went and bought all of her books from this series and I’ve added on each year as Joanne has written and continued this series!

Audiobook Strawberry Shortcake Murder by Joanne Fluke

After reading a synopsis of the most recent book in the Hannah Swenson series, I decided to start with the beginning. One week later, and I’m done with the first two. I’d have read more but I have to get some sleep to teach during the day.

These books are enticing. Fluke knows how to develop the characters without overdoing it. Hannah’s not perfect, but she’s not a sad sack either. Her relationships and interactions with other characters tell you more about her than Fluke does. Although you may guess correctly about something that is going to occur, Fluke keeps you guessing about the solution of the mystery until the end. An added bonus? You get the recipes for the baked goods mentioned in the book. I can see what I will be doing during this summer’s vacation.

Audio Strawberry Shortcake Murder narrated by Suzanne Toren

Except when it comes to murder. Hannah becomes a super sleuth when she discovers a murder. Between baking cookies and investigating murders with her sister Andrea, she has a pretty busy life. Always keeping the reader in suspense you have to keep reading to find out who done it. Juggling two men at the same time, makes her love life interesting too. My Hannah is a busy girl!

I liked the first Hannah Swenson book enough to buy the second and was glad I did as this is a really good story. The characters seem to have come alive in this second installment and although there is a tendency for the author to spell everything out for us rather than let us use our imagination, it doesn’t distract (much) from the read. If there was a disappointment it was that the murderer seemed to appear out of nowhere at the end.

As always JoAnne Fluke deliverers a scrumptious recipe for murder. A national Bake-off has come to Lake Eden and Hannah is the Head Judge. Now if she could just solve a couple of murders and stay alive long enough for the final night all will be good.
I loved this book for all the for all the recipes, the new and returning characters but most of all for Hannah. Hannah Swensen is a strong, independent woman making it in this world on her own. Making a living making cookies with two very different men competing for her she can take her time to choose wisely.

I am a frequent reader and stumbled upon the first volume of this series a little by accident, and decided to read it, partly due to the concept of a murder mystery with some cooking recipes to lighten things up. I wasn’t too impressed by the first volume, but decided to give the second book a try anyway. Unfortunately, it also failed to impress.
This book seems to me to be more about owning a cookie shop (and eating cookies, and having others eat them as well) than about a murder mystery – which would be alright, if this were a cookbook with a bit of literature and not the other way around.

I was also quite annoyed by the little details about how cookies are a must in life and how everyone should eat them everyday and more than once a day! I know this is a personal thing of mine, but it bothers me when I see an author claim the character felt a lot more awake (after sleeping little for whichever reason) after eating sugar-filled food, and have that as a normal and true fact. Oh well, that’s just me, I suppose.

Will I buy the rest of the collection? If they were sold at £1 each and if I ever run out of books to read… maybe.
