C.A.E.C.O.

While I was surprised to see — unexpectedly — that this book was released, it was not one I was excited about. I’ve never liked Caeco, and really had mixed feelings about her ‘intrusion’ with a book of her own. But, you know, I was really wrong on this one. If you like Demon Accords, and even if you have felt like me in the past about this character, I think you will actually like this book. Caeco is very well redeemed, and becomes a team player, there is a lot of other plot development, and I’ve seldom been so happy to be wrong about a book based purely on what I thought it would be like.

Simply, I did NOT like C.A.E.C.O. in “Fallen Stars” then came ‘Executable” to explain all her troubles and I liked her even LESS. Finally “God Hammer” where she shows her true colors and I HATED her with a passion BUT we were finally through with her so moving on with a great story line sans Miss. B!
Now we have a whole book devoted to someone I have NO respect for, NO emotional connection with and one who has BETRAYED my favorite character in the series! I’m a dedicated “Demon Accords” fan so I bought the book, I read the book and I’m here to say UGH!
Here we see an author try to put “lipstick on a pig” but it’s STILL A PIG! Nothing in this book changes my opinion about C.A.E.C.O.
If you enjoyed this book, good for you! To each their own. For me, not so much.
Of note, this is by far the best edited of all of Mr. Conroe’s “Demon Accord” series! BRAVO!

Another great read by Conroe. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Caeco, her boss SAIC Jay and SA Mitchell Allen who are headed to the Reis homestead which is literally in the middle of nowhere in the Adirondack Mountains. Jay took over leadership of the team after SA Krupp went of the rails. A Krupp who damned near got herself and her team killed.

The road in is a narrow dirt road and when the finally get to the house, Dad steps out with a shotgun. After some negotiation everything is resolved. The Reis family are Were Mountain lions and Caeco knows as soon as they leave the family will be gone as well.

Caeco had been Declan O’Carrolls girlfriend for a year but both decided it wasn’t a good fit. Declan is now the mate of Werewolf Stacia Reynolds and Caeco hasn’t met anyone she wants as a boyfriend yet.

There is speculation that the Vorsook don’t exist. Of course Caeco and anyone who was involved with the defeat of the Vorsook know how real the aliens are. Omega the all knowing AI keeps track of the Vorsook and knows they are still out there waiting.

Declan, Stacia and those with them are still out contacting elementals. Elementals that could become great allies in the war against the Vorsook. Omega has had many flying vessels built using the Vorsook design. These vehicles are awesome and can move thousands of miles in an instant. Great to have when fighting the Vorsook.

Caeco and her team get a mission after a meeting with President Polner. A Polner who had many questions for Caeco. Questions she answered to the best of her ability. After the meeting, Tyson, head of the FBI informed Caeco that he could fire her and would if she had anything more to say to the POTUS. Caeco was confused. Polner asked. She answered. End of story. Tyson is a ladder climbing idiot. A fact Caeco knows quite well. He will do and say anything to advance his own cause. Caeco has pretty much decided she needs to stay with the FBI even though she hates the crap that goes along with belonging to the FBI. She knows she’s a weapon they would try to destroy if she wasn’t one of them.

Next up is a mission to Philadelphia a mission that will but everyone of her team members in jeopardy. Mind control will be used. Caeco and those with her are immune to it because of the necklaces they all wear. Magic necklaces provided by Declan.

So begins another damned fine read by Conroe.

This one has Caeco, her team, a team trying to take down mind controlled people without seriously hurting them, a Declan who needs help, an earthquake along the Alaskan coast, a President Polner who continues to ask Caeco what she knows, a Declan who may have lost his magic, an Omega who will do all he can for his Father, a Caeco who meets a man who has as much power as she has, a captured Caeco and that man, a man named Fan who is working for the Chinese, Chinese who know the Vorsook are real and want to help in any way they can, a Stacia who frees Caeco and Fan, a Caeco who just might have met a man who is her equal and Caeco doing her best to protect her team, take out the trash, survive and stay alive.

Five Stars

The.only good.parts are those focusing on Declan, and the Vorsook battles. This book reads like a third party dryly describing Caeco’s robotic, unfeeling, unemotional character. Very few depth or.emotions are attributed to Caeco, there are no references.to ‘the kiss’ in Italy (she was emotional.enough then, now she is more.like an android). Average at best. NOT Reccommended, and not an integral.part of the Demon Accords series.

It seems like the market is flooded with every author with a semi decent series dropping poorly written sidebar stories that don’t add anything tangible to the storyline, and honestly I was a bit wary of another one. This is not one of those. Instead we get a well written story that both advanced the plot while tying up some loose ends and adding some context. Don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed.
