First of all, before you read this book, it’s imperative you read the first book in this series. Even though that book is about another couple, so much happens between Reed and Courtney. They have an extremely tumultuous relationship. But underneath it all, they love each other. They were both amazing characters and it was heartbreaking watching them hurt each other over and over. Luckily it was happening in the background since the first book was about Whitney and Layton. Anyway, this book is about Reed and Courtney realizing that they truly belong together. (And the thing is, if you haven’t read the first book- you really won’t appreciate it). There isn’t really any angst between Reed and Courtney in this book —thank goodness. You might think that is boring but it wasn’t at all. I loved reading about them. I felt like their story was truly beautiful and it made me happy.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. This is the second book in the Broken series. The first book, Broken, was a fairly good read. I will admit I probably wouldn’t have read another Kelly Elliott book after Broken (I wasn’t all that taken with the writing) but I completely fell in love with the quirky best friend in Broken, Courtney. I was beyond excited to get to Courtney’s story. I am a big fan of the “best friend” in a first installment of a series getting their own story. I sometimes find the heroine in the first story a bit too goody-goody. The best friends are almost always more appealing to me. The story for this book really begins in Broken, where Courtney meets Reed. Instantly the chemistry is there. I loved the banter between the two characters. I will say I felt Broken almost set up Courtney/Reed a bit too much, leaving too little story left for Broken Dreams. Also, the stories are very similar, but that is something, if done well, I can look past. Broken Dreams picks up where Broken left off. There is no real story before Reed and Courtney are professing their love for one another. I get that we could look at Broken as the set up, but if I am going to read an entire book about a couple, give me a little more anticipation before throwing the characters together. That being said, the set-up really isn’t the problem. The plots of why Reed and Courtney were fighting their love are never really fleshed out. Yes, they go into Courtney’s a bit more, but the scene where everything comes out is anti-climatic to say the least. I don’t need tons of conflict, but I felt everything in this book was taken care of way too easily. Also, the book is ridiculously repetitive. It seems someone was always crying. And saying “I love you”. Seriously, I couldn’t count the number of “I love you” or versions of “I love you.” (I love you so much. I love you, baby.) in this book. The book read like a thirteen year old’s love note to a crush. (Of course, minus the steamy scenes.) In regards to the steamy scenes, I will say some might find them a bit on the heavy side. For me the writing was so bad I really didn’t even take the amount of sex in this book into consideration. In no way did I find this book worth the $3.99 I paid. I have seen numerous good reviews of Kelly Elliott’s books, and one day I may give this author another try. I do believe sometimes the author just doesn’t hit every one out of the park. That was definitely the case here.

Audiobook Broken Dreams (Broken #2) by Kelly Elliott

After finishing Broken … I dove right into this one. Since i fell in love with Courtney and Reed in Broken I couldn’t wait to read their story, and let me tell you Kelly did not disappoint. Courtney and Reed met of course in book one “Broken” and their initial reaction to each other was not exactly a good one. These two immediately had a thing for each other but fought it HARD! Courtney and Reed were both scared initially of their feelings for one another, so while it might have seemed like everything happened fast in this book, those who read Broken know that it took these two a while to get together. With Whitley and Layton, their best friends falling in love and spending so much time together there was now way for Courtney and Reed to completely avoid each other. These two fought constantly in the first book, feelings were hurt, words were said in anger, walls were built to avoid hurt and pain. Courtney and Reed both engaged in other relationships, attempted to move away from one another and move on … mission failed … the heart wants what the heart wants. Courtney Will, dreams of finding her prince charming, she has since she was a young girl. She always dreamed of being swept off her feet and that no holds barred kind of love. But when she was a young teen just sixteen years old her dreams were shattered, and her heart broken. Courtney now plays it safe, coasting through life living simply through her book boyfriends. She’s not looking for love, shes looking for safe and comfortable. “I love you Reed. I’ve loved you for so long, and I’m tired of being afraid of that love.” He closed his eyes and put his forehead against mine. “You totally just made me the happiest man on earth.” Reed Moore is also haunted by his past, not only did his father walk out on his mother and leave them all behind, but he has done things in his life as a young adult that he is far from proud of. Reed believes that he is destined to be like his father, with past mistakes that haunt him he wonders if he even deserves love. So Reed a lot like Courtney decides to play life on the safer side, safe from causing hurt or pain to himself or those he could grow to love. “I’m going to fight for her love even if I have to fight for it for the rest of my life.” These two have passion and love that consumes your soul as you read this book. They are both scared to give in to what they feel for one another for fear that they will be hurt. Their love is raw, real, powerful, and something that comes along once in a lifetime. “Thank you for giving us the best love story there is. Ours is beautiful, passionate, caring, and never-ending love.” With weddings, babies, and unconditional love this book was another great book from Kelly!

Audio Broken Dreams (Broken #2) narrated by Nelson Hobbs Shirl Rae

Wow where do I start???? As with all of Kelly’s books, I first get drawn in to them with her beautifully detailed covers. They scream “read me!!!” And that I sure do!! Broken Dreams is Courtney and Reed’s story. Courtney always dreamed of finding her prince charming. One fateful night in high school changed her perception of that. Her innocence taken from her, she vowed to never trust boys again. Reed has his own heartache…having been raised by his mother, he swore to never be like his dead beat father. A past mistake with a girl has Reed feeling guilty…a guilt that has plagued him for years. Courtney and Reed both were so troubled and denied their true feelings when they first met in Kelly’s first book in this series…Broken. Broken Dreams take a off where Broken left off. I love how easily it is to go from one book to the next. Kelly’s books are told in all the main characters POV’s. It makes it easy to keep up with all their story’s. Kelly had some lol moments and many that caused my eyes to tear up. There some beautifully written words that made my heart flutter!!! 🙂 As things progress, Court’s past comes back to haunt her. Reed is there to help her through everything…he sooooooo made me swoon. Like SERIOUSLY smiling and swooning!!! Gunner (in Kelly’s book Wanted) is my ultimate bbf but I’ll say Reed is a close second!!! Reed truly helped Courtney, saved her and showed her pure unconditional love. The ending was brill and I am looking forward for the follow on book in 2015. Please read Kelly’s Broken series…and while you’re at it get her Wanted series too!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!!!!

Oh my good lord. Looooooove this book, I think I said awww and swooned on every single page it is that good I tell you, bloody brilliant. One of the best books I have I have read this year so far which has now become my go to book when I need cheering up or just to swoon the afternoon away. Lately books have been getting so much more darker and crazy with a ton of horse crap, this was like a Divine intervention from the book Gods or something. It’s refreshing and heartfelt and takes us right back to the basics of writing a really good genuine romance story. Broken Dreams is all about the love and the power of true all consuming crazy pure love. It’s character driven which I love.Reed and Courtney both have broken dreams but together they build new ones and live and set about achieving those dreams daily with their love as a guiding force. Of course the main characters from Broken were all present put did not over shadow the main characters. Oh boy the writing is something to be admired it’s soooooo freaking good the word literally glided across the page and into your heart the flow is effortless, I just loved everything, there was nothing I did not like. Kelly Elliott knows how to deliver a great sustainable read. Love love love love love love love love love love, could not possibly love any more truly a fantastic book. Ok so now onto the best book in the series which we got a little excerpt from at the end of broken dreams…..OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG and OMG freaking out right now……I swear I don’t know how I’m going to make it all the way to Jan 2015 I NEED THAT BOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW MOW NOW. Kelly also knows how to reel you in and then leave you wanting so much more. 2015 where the hell are you?!?
