Off Course (Off #4)

The book kept me happy…until the 10 to 15 percent. I hate the fact that romance novels seem to require a HEA, even at the sake of the h. Just because someone realizes how horribly they treated you and miss you, and just because they are hot doesn’t mean that somehow makes everything all better and it is all immediately forgiven. Let the h be alone nor even find happiness with someone who tears her right and knows her worth. Ugh. And of course we also had the whole family deciding for you here too. I would have given 2 stars if I hadn’t of enoljoyed the book up until the very end. So disappointing.

Off Course is Sawyer Bennett’s fourth book in her Off Series. This can be read as a stand a stand alone, but I would highly recommend the others in this series. Sawyer has a great ability to write fantastic stories with amazing characters. She does it in a way that draws you in from the start and does not let go!

In this story you will meet Renner Caldwell and Cillian O’Braidagh. Renner had her life all planned out. She was in a great relationship, had the perfect job and everything was going well for her, until everything that could go wrong did. She decides she will go back to Ireland to spend some time with her family while she sorts her life out. The last thing she expects is to run into the lead singer of the Irish rock band, Over the Edge. She met Cillian briefly five years ago, and has never really stopped thinking of him since, but he is the stereotypical rock star and would never in a million years be what she is looking for.

Being a Rock Star, Cillian works hard and is determined to get what he wants. Make no mistake, he wants Renner. His desire for Renner is far more than just a hook-up. But with tragedies from his past and present get in the way of what he wants?

Sawyer Bennett has done a fantastic job with this storyline. It is heartfelt and captivating. She also manages to touch on a serious issue plaguing many people in today’s society and is able to convey a message to her readers as well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for more!

I am a fan of Sawyer Bennett’s books. Not all are 5-stars to me – but this one comes pretty close…4 3/4 stars.

Quick storyline: Cillian is a recently successful musician (mainly in Europe) and becomes involved with Renner, an American who has recently suffered a very bad work+love experience. Although they met when they were 18 years old and shared an earth-shattering kiss. They are both 5 years older and Renner is reluctant to get involved with Cillian. There are other obstacles in their way, but there is a HEA with NO Cliffhanger! Yippie.

This book is easy reading, great antagonists that do not drag on forever. No major misunderstandings that make you want to bang your head against the wall.
Ms Bennett writes the dialogue as people really do speak. It flows well and is very believeable.

Love the ‘cameos’ by other characters from her other books (Nix especially – hawt hawt hawt). His one line when he’s in the bar steals the whole book.

I love how Renner is a down to earth, hard working girl. She isn’t weepy, weak, nor super insecure. She is strong, smart and independent. LOVE women like that.
Cillian is not the ‘party-hard’ hedonistic rocker. He sits in a pub, but only has 2 beers and can write songs for hours. He is deep and caring. He doesn’t posture in front of other guys – he just is who he is. Not alpha-male, but not insecure, jump to conclusions guy, either.

Liking both H and h really makes this book. You want them to fall in love and have their HEA.
Throw in a few antagonists, super great friends and protective cousins and you have a great book to read!

This book is not ‘deep’ nor does it have a complicated plot. It flows well and keeps you engaged. You like the characters and hope for true love to conquer all. And thankfully the ‘all’ is not too crazy.

Highly recommend this book for an easy to read, smile on your face, romance. 🙂

Renner is back in Dublin, Ireland where she spent the summer after her high school graduation five years ago. She has memories of one hot tattooed pierced rock star that she can’t get out of her head. Working at her uncle’s pub until she figures out what she wants to do with her life, she happens to wait on said rocker. Thinking that he surely wouldn’t remember her after all these years she tries to avoid him the rest of the night.

Cillian has been thinking about this American girl that he met five years ago. She haunts his dreams at night. There was just something about this shy innocent girl that he can’t forget her. When he sees her again he can’t believe his eyes. Why didn’t Cady tell him she was back in Ireland ? When Cillian confronts Renner that first night sheiks stunned that he remembered who she was.

Cillian pursues Renner and she keeps brushing him off. No one has ever done that to him. It’s refreshing and also proposes a challenge he is more that happy to accept. Renner is desperately trying to keep Cillian at arms length. She plays the straight and narrow. She’s good, not spontaneous. He doesn’t fit into her idea of “the perfect man.”

When Renner learns of the controlling tendencies that Cillian demonstrates she is beyond intrigued. Can she give up that much control without losing herself ? After she submits to his control, things get hot and heavy between the two of them.

Enter Maeve, the bassist of the band. She is manipulative and wants to keep Cillian all to herself and is willing to play dirty to get him. With her lies she manages to put distance in the relationship that is developing between Renner and Cillian.

Will Cillian realize that he is being manipulated before he loses his one true love ? Will Renner stay by his side for him to help Maeve with her problems ?

Renner Caldwell is staying in Ireland with relatives working in her uncles pub. Renner had recently had not just heartbreak, but a bad incident that had cost her a job that she loved. Cillian an O’Braidlagh is treated like a family member by her uncles family. Renner had met Cillian some years before when she was in Ireland on holiday. She realised then after her brief encounter with him, what sort of man he was, and he was nothing like the kind of man Renner wanted in her life, she was all about getting a husband with a good steady job and the obligatory 2.4 children.

Cillian remembers the beautiful redhead, he’s never quite forgotten Renner, and he wants her, and what Cillian wants he usually gets. But Renner is proving difficult to pin down. Plus with a determined ex wanting back in his life things soon become very complicated.

First read for me by this author, and this is also the first book I have read in this series, I will certainly be reading the others. The author has a very pleasing style that draws the reader in. I liked the characters they were very engaging and believable. Renner was a sweet girl who had been sorely used and deceived in the past, and was determined to protect her heart. Cillian was a good guy, but he certainly had his TSTL moments. This also has hot and sexy love scenes. An all round good read.
