An experiment went wrong related to quantum uncertainty. This was when Bill Rustad, a physics student along with his folks. They soon discovered that this wrong experiment has created an interdimensional portal. They unite to Outland which is an alternate planet Earth having identical geology. It was a place where humans were known to not evolve at all. The group of students tried hard to establish control of the thing before the military, government or malefactors could take charge of it.
The eruption of the Yellowstone super-volcano changed everything all of a sudden. That explosion was big enough to destroy civilization and also kill half of the inhabitants. The team has a few hours only to get the maximum possible people across to the Outland. This needed to be done before a devastating cloud of ash could engulf them.
