Girl in the Rearview Mirror

In her debut novel, Kelsey Rae Dimberg dips her toes into the pond of the noir genre (defined by Merriam-Webster as “crime fiction featuring hard-boiled, cynical characters and bleak sleazy settings”). Dimberg’s characters are well-drawn and share qualities that are dark and deceitful. Some of the settings ARE objectively sleazy; others only seem so as a reflection of the moral difficulty exhibited by the people who inhabit them. This is not a pretty fairy tale with a happily-ever-after ending. But it is delicious!

This book was really well written but ended very abruptly. When I finished, I realized there had been basically zero character development or resolution.

Extremely well written and wholly enjoyable book! Impressive debut, I look forward to more from this very talented writer.

This was the perfect summer (or really any time) read. It doesnt take long for the quiet menace of the first few scenes to spiral into nail-biting nightmare. The characters are rich with passions and quirks and each scene contains little surprise-and-delight details. The thriller was tense and the writing beautiful!

Recommended. A dark, twisty mystery novel that ponders the invention of self, family, and privelege. At the heart of it is the nature of truth – what it means to find it, own it, and be worthy of it. Finn is a truly unique character; you’ve not met her before
