A Pound of Flesh

Alex Gray again comes up with a new and exciting tale of our favorite detective in a bit different pursuit of an unusual pair of killers on opposite paths. Recommended highly to fans of gripping mystery in Glasgow.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters came to life in the book. They were real, warts and all. The plot seemed complicated to the players, but the reader was given inside knowledge behind the scenes, which held his/her interest in watching how the puzzle unfolded and how the the solution to it, evolved. A nice, easy read that held my attention.

This series, by Scottish author, Alex Gray, take place in Glasgow. Detective Superintendent Lorimer has just started a new job, and he is going to have to get to know the new crew with whom he will be working. This crew is at the call of every division in the area, called in when any serious crime has occurred. The serious crime in this case, is the death of two men at railway bridges. It seems a tenuous connection, but it is only the beginning. Of course, Dr. Solly Brightman will be called in to provide psychological insight, and Lorimer’s wife, Maggie, will be called on to be forgiving when work draws him away from his family. A fabulous read; Gray has a real understanding of human foibles.

DNF–stopped when police officer divulged information in first time meeting with journalist. No LE proffessional drops their gaurd like that no matter how bad they want to sleep with someone. Couldn’t suspend my reality enough to buy that.

Interesting convoluted plot. Looked is an interesting protagonist coping with politics as well as trying to solve murders of street women and a politician.
