The story is wonderful. I think fans of Anne McCaffrey already know that. However, the conversion from print to digital leaves something to be desired. As I was reading, due to instances of missing text, I had to pull out my 1992 mass market paperback edition to check what I was reading because I was left scratching my head and going WTF? So I’m writing this review in order to document the missing text for those who don’t have a print edition to compare to the digital edition. I hope you find it useful. Missing text is shown in brackets.

Editing Issues [11]:
Page 26/ location 507missing word: Jaxom liked Jancis. Not long ago, they had shared lessons at the Mastersmithcraft [Hall] and he remembered that she had worked a lot harder than he had (Same error in print edition)

Page 33/ location 630missing space: So why not put them backup? The text should read: “back up”. (Error NOT in print edition)

Page 187/ location 3399typo/missing letters: Insisted, since both [Ly]tol and myself ought to attend the Conference. The text should read: Lytol (not tol). (Error NOT in print edition)

Page 349/ location 6352typo: Larad [proffered] writing materials and a message tube. (Error preferred NOT in print edition, however the print edition misspells the word as profered.)

Page 377/ location 6874missing words: A ship was waiting to take [him who knows where.] (error NOT in print edition)

Page 384/ location 6965missing words: Lord [Sigomal and Master Norist were named as those who had given] the order and supplied both marks and equipment. (As shown in the print edition)

Page 387/ location 7036missing words: nor wished [them harm, nor wish them harm now. I pity them for their fear] of the unknown, of the unusual, for their violence and unthinking narrowness of vision and spirit. (as shown in the print edition)

Page 399/ location 7241missing word: Shells! But I hate to fall down on [you.”] (As shown in the print edition)

Page 410/location 7432missing words: [Jaxom rubbed his hand across his lips. Knowledge of the] future was a parlous asset. But it was enough that Jaxom knew this great enterprise would work. (As shown in the print edition)

Page 412/location 7473missing words: Which constituted a major [problem for him. He desperately needed a few private words with] Aivas, to see if he had come up with any ideas on how Jaxom could insinuate himself into Ntons flight and get the dragons to take Ruths coordinates for the second time leap of a mere five hundred Turns. (As shown in the print edition)

Page 427/location 7766missing words: He felt at ease here in the Aivas room as he did not at [Cove Hold, especially when Lytol and D’ram kept treating him] like an invalid. (As shown in the print edition)

All the Weyrs of Pern audiobook in series Original Dragonriders of Pern (abridged)

This review is for the CD audiobook version only. I’ve been a fan of the Pern series going way back, and I’ve read the books a number of times. I thought it would be nice to have the CD version for long car trips. Unfortunately, the audiobook version is terrible, entirely due to the guy reading it. I have no idea who he is, but the is virtually unlistenable. He reads with a slow, dull cadence as if he were reading the book for preschoolers. Imagine Mr. Rogers reading it and it will give you some idea. Worse, he insists on doing ‘voices’ for the characters. Every Weyrleader has some inexplicable southern accent, while all the female characters have a bizarre falsetto. The worst is Robinton, who speaks so slooowly and with such drawn out spacing for the words that even Alan Rickman would tell him to get on with it. Seriously, he sounds like Goliath from the old Davey and Goliath claymation series. “Well… Iii doon’t knooow daaveeey”.. I had intended to get the audio version of the rest of the series, over time. But too many are read by this same guy, and while a 3 year old might enjoy it, anyone older than that is going to want to shred this CD after the first half hour of listening to this guy fight his was through the simplest sentences. Imagine the worst actor you have ever seen chewing the scenery like Jaws while simultaneously dozing off.
I have to say too that it’s gotten harder to suspend disbelief when it comes to the story itself. Having set up the world of Pern over so many previous books, once Aivas gets involved, the story jumps along in ways that don’t make much sense, and the character of Aivas makes even less. A computer that formulates a plan but won’t tell anyone what it is? A computer that at times is just a machine and at others seems to have some kind of emotional awareness? That spouts bible passages to a society with no organized religion and calls the bible the greatest book ever written? The entire CD is just painful.

All the Weyrs of Pern audiobook by Anne McCaffrey

Such an awesome conclusion to this specific storyline. Ive read this book (as well as all of the others) countless times over again since I was first gifted a copy of Dragonflight 33 years ago. This particular book tells the epic story of all the weyrs coming together to destroy their ancient enemy. So much happens in this book including learning some of the ancient history of pern and the dragons, along with the ongoing fight against threadfall. If youve read Dragonflight, Dragonquest and the White Dragon, this is a must read. It picks up right where the White Dragon leaves off. Two thumbs up for this book, as well as all of the dragon rider novels!

All the Weyrs of Pern audio narrated by Adrienne Barbeau

The Dragonriders of Pern are some of my very favorite stories. Anne McCaffrey (not Todd) has built such a wonderful world that when you finish the series you feel like so many of these people are your friends, and you just know Pern really exists out there, just waiting for us to re-discover it. I love “All the Weyrs of Pern” because it ties the current population to their “ancestors” after they discover AIVIS, a voice activated computer system that holds a lot of their history, and a possible way out of the dilemma that they have faced all their lives. I would recommend starting with the first three books first, so that you have a foundation for the story. Once you start, it is hard to put any of them down.

With this the finale of the Dragon riders of Pern. Lessa and F’lar as Weyr leaders of Benden along with Jaxom, rider of Ruth the highly unique white dragon the end to Thread is with in grasp with the help of AVAIS a computer left by the settlers of Pern and only recently discovered after 2500 turns. It will take Crafts and Holds all working together as well as all the dragons of Pern to destroy the destructive Thread,. Meanwhile there are those who fear the changes and technology AVAIS has brought to Pern and some will risk anything even the life of the beloved Master Harper Robinson to force the destruction of AVAIS.

    1. Thank you very much for making these lovely audiobooks available for free (health issues have recently made them much more available than paper books, and being VERY short of cash I sincerely appreciate it.

      B.U.T……….

Could you PLEASE put in some capacity fast forward/backward thru a section.

I listen whilst getting to sleep. And sometimes – since I am listening on my mobile phone – I have OFTEN accidentally touched the screen whilst manoeuvering the phone, so that I change unintentionally to another screen. It is INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING when this happens at – say – 40 minutes into a 50 min section and when I try to get back to the story I find the whole thing reloaded and needing to start back to ZERO AGAIN!!!

I don’t want to sound ungrateful, because TRULY I am not, but other (even FREE!) audiobook sites (or, for instance Youtube, I could go – or rerun – back to where I was just listening to! I even swore that I would not use your site again – after I had just been caught out for AT LEAST the sixth time(!) – and the only reason that I am using your site again is that I REALLY wanted to listen to a story series that I couldn’t find on other sites. If I have a choice, however, I will do my best to use ANOTHER SITE.

      Thanks, sorry and PLEEEEASE!!!!

      • Thank you @Liz,
I think you should try the mobile app version.
After the Audio Player, you can find the app icon (IOS or Android), click to that icon and Install the app.
I am planning to buy a premium audio player to replace the current player.
        Hope it will help!
