Everyone knows that Rock Stars are my favourite trope, so when a friend tells me shes found an awesome book, Im all over it like white on rice. This is my first read from Ryleigh Sloan and Im rapt to have found her, because Ive read two now and have absolutely loved both of them. Ms Sloan packed a wealth of experience within the covers of this virtual book, from the technical aspects of correct breathing while singing professionally, through to life on a South African guest wildlife reserve. I enjoyed every moment, and I got to see a lot. I also had a steady picture running through my head of each scene as I read, and there was enough detail to round out the experience without burying the story under a mire of detail. Ms Sloan came across as passionate both about the music and the lifestyle of a working lodge and wildlife reserve. Holy crap, the chemistry between Dean and Blair was another character unto itself!! Theirs is a forbidden relationship, so of course if makes sense that it was a relatively slow burn, but it was by no means tame. The energy between them crackled, and it certainly ramped up as the book developed!!! As the first book in the series, we got to meet some of the best types of secondary characters! Blairs best friend Maddie was as funny as a fight, and I definitely want to know more about Kade and his band. Of special note was Blairs Pawpaw and Grandma who were legends. Grandma was not past giving out a right tong up to her son, Blairs father, when it was needed. It was epic, just like they were in being her biggest supporters. If youre into the rock or music scene with your reading, or enjoy forbidden romances, this is one for you. 5 Stars.

(audiobook+ebook) Though I liked it less than book 2, I still enjoyed it quite a lot. I just didnt feel the pull with these characters. Blair was interesting, but she looked too perfect so I couldnt relate to her. As for Dean, his decisions made no sense sometimes. But I loved the storys context, with the reality TV show and all that impliesthe house full of contestants, the audience, the little wars. And the part in South Africa, with the wild animals, was also fascinating. In general, the events were more interesting than the characters they happen to. Unless it was a secondary character. Like Maddie and her over the top energy, or the vile Danielle. For me, they almost took center stage. Of course, being a rock star romance, the book revolves a lot around music, feelings as well as technicality. I liked it. It showed the hard work behind being a star. The narration was good, but sometimes felt a bit dull, even though I liked both narrators a lot.

Audiobook Back Beat by Ryleigh Sloan
Ok, first of all, with Erin Mallon and Zachary Webber as narrators, the audiobook had to be good. This dual narration was great and the narrators played their characters flawlessly. I really enjoyed how the narration enhanced the story. The story itself was fun- I kept imagining \”The Voice\” although I never watched the show. Dean is a rockstar who is helping up and coming singers as part of a contest. Blair is one of those. The chemistry is well written and expressed throughout the story and the story, though generally short, was well paced. I really liked the characters, especially Blair but also Dean and I liked that the book was not very angsty (although there is a clear villain.) AudiobookObsessionReviewer, AudiobookObsession

Audio Back Beat narrated by Erin Mallon Zachary Webber
I\’m the sucker for Rockstar Romance. I absolutely loved this book. Blaire starts out on a competitions show looking for talented artist in the music industry. She has the talent, but can she win? When something happens back home in South Africa, will she leave the US and give up on what she wants? Will she still be able to have it all? When the rumor start to fly can she handle the stress? Dean is a judge on the competition show looking for new artist that have the talent to make it that big time. He hears Blaire and he spins around and sees her, she has talent and the looks! Does he pick her or pass? Can he keep it professional? Can he hold his tongue and keep his anger at bay? You\’ll have to read to find out all of the questions! Trust me you\’ll not want to pass on this book! It has that \”this could happen in real life\” feel to it and sucks you in from page one. Fantastic job Rayleigh, can\’t wait for the next book!

I loved this book. I loved the uniqueness of it with a music reality show. What can I say about Blair and Dean? One was trying to make it big the other already had. I loved the forbidden aspect of this book and the selfless acts characters kept doing. There are also some really cool unique descriptive locations in this book.
